Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition

An affordable laptop with highlights like a 1080p screen and GT650M graphics.

While we’ll have to reserve final judgement until we can submit it to our tests and benchmarks, Dell’s Inspiron 17R Special Edition certainly seems to provide all the ingredients for a power user or gamer who might not be able to afford an XPS or...

Dell Inspiron 17R

We check out Dell's new minimalist 17.3in Inspiron, packing a Core i5 CPU and a great keyboard.

Rock-solid build, Best-in-class keyboard, Decent overall performance

High maintenance glossy finish to casing, Poor viewing angles, some visible dithering

Dell Inspiron 17R-5720 review

We've been so swamped with Windows 8 tablets and Ultrabooks in recent months that it actually makes a nice change to see a good old-fashioned desktop replacement laptop machine arrive for once.

The Dell Inspiron 17R is too big and heavy to carry down to your local coffee shop at lunchtime. However, it’s a good, affordable choice if you’re looking for a desktop replacement machine that has the power to handle productivity software at work, and...

Dell Inspiron 17R review (2012)

The Dell Inspiron 17R is a budget desktop replacement laptop, which sounds like it might be an oxymoron. After all, how can a laptop that's meant to replace a desktop be, well, a cheap laptop (listed at £559, to be exact)?

Calling the Dell Inspiron 17R a desktop replacement is a little unfair, since it's not really in the league of the performance desktops that dominate the category. The Inspiron 17R is a solid machine if you're looking for a large screen on a budget,...

Dell Inspiron 17R

Portability aside, weighing over 3Kg the Dell Inspiron 17R is certainly a back breaker. In partnership with that the low battery life it's clear this laptop is not for seekers of portability. However, its desktop replacement specifications are superb.

The dedicated graphics card is capable of handling even some of the most demanding games and the huge 17.3” inch high definition screen is more than perfect for watching the latest DVDs and the i5 processor is more than capable of handling multiple...

The screen and the entire laptop as a whole is extrememly reflective. Even though this isn’t much of a problem it certainly does attract finger prints and dust a lot. However, even though the battery life is quite miserable but for a desktop...

A great overall laptop even with the highly reflective body, good enough to be able to apply your make up in ease, and features the latest and arguably the greatest specification for a 17-inch desktop replacement laptop.

Dell Inspiron 17R review

Bulky and short on battery life, but the big screen, top-quality speakers and gaming power make this a laptop not to be overlooked

A 17in laptop certainly won't suit everyone, particularly with such uninspiring battery life, but if portability isn't one of your main priorities, we can thoroughly recommend the Dell Inspiron 17R as a larger option. It's well built, has a good...
