Alienware m17 R3

The Alienware m17 is extremely fast, with a fantastic 300Hz screen, a top-notch keyboard and great design – but it's expensive, and its components will be overkill for many users

Alienware m17 R3 Review: Stellar Performance

The third revision of the Alienware m17 gaming laptop is a beast when it comes to power and visuals, but it doesn't come cheap.

Bright, colorful, large screen ; Comfortable, clicky per-key RGB keyboard ; Thin for a gaming laptop

Hot and loud ; Poor battery life ; Pricey

The Alienware m17 R3 is about as powerful as a gaming laptop can get while keeping under 1 inch of thickness, and has a great screen and striking design.

Alienware m17 R3 Review

Standout sci-fi aesthetic ; Chart-topping performance in our Core i9 and RTX 2080 Super configuration ; Enough power to utilize its 300Hz display in competitive multiplayer games ; Many configuration options ; Good port selection and extras like...

Expensive as configured ; Poor battery life ; Design may not be for everyone

The Alienware m17 R3 is a uniquely styled gaming laptop with an extreme high-refresh screen for hardcore players. It's a pricey but top-quality package with the capacity for colossal power and plenty of configuration options.

Alienware m17 R3 review

The Alienware m17 R3 has serious power in a surprisingly lightweight design

Attractive, lightweight design for a desktop replacement ; Great graphics and overall performance ; Beautiful 4K display ; Comfortable keyboard

Seriously expensive ; Below-average battery life

The Alienware m17 R3 serves up plenty of beauty and performance, but it costs a pretty penny.

Alienware 17 R3 (2016) Review

An excellent gaming laptop, the Alienware 17 features a gorgeous 4K screen and a secret weapon in its optional graphics amp.

Gorgeous 4K display; Lots of ports; Optional Graphics Amp; Surprisingly good battery life

Sound could be better; Runs hot when gaming

Review Alienware M17x R3 GTX 580M i7-2820QM Notebook

Optimus Gaming. Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M graphics with Optimus, combined with a no less powerful Intel i7-2820QM quad-core CPU, all in a 17-inch Alienware Stealth Bomber case. Is it worth paying the extra for this top-of-the-range mobile graphics card...

Optimus; Fully adjustable backlighting; Design and feel; Easy access to HDD, memory, fans, GPU & CPU

Strongly reflective display; Keyboard ghosting; GPU underclocked on battery power

Keyboard ghosting on a €2000+ gaming laptop

Alienware M17x R3 Review

Now in its third iteration, the M17x continues to be an impressive looker and performer. We go hands-on with this 17.3-inch top-shelf gaming notebook

Fantastic performance ; Unique design ; Excellent keyboard and touchpad ; Great speakers

Build quality not as good as old M17x ; Gets noisy under full load

The top of the chassis remains lukewarm only on the keyboard area; the rest is room temperature. The bottom center of the chassis gets hot but not alarmingly so. Overall the M17x R3 has a well-designed cooling system, though its predecessor was...

Alienware M17x R3

The M17x is a glorious piece of kit. The sheer size of the thing means that it isn't for everyone, but for those who want outrageous gaming ability from their laptop, this is it. Unless you get the bigger one ...

Huge amount of power ; HDMI-in lets you use the screen as an external monitor ; Lighting system allows customisation, or can be turned off

Big and heavy ; AMD switchable graphics are awful

Well, this, or the bigger M18x ...

Alienware m17 R3 review

The Alienware m17 R3 is a powerful and capable gaming laptop, but it has some unexpected rough spots that seem out of place in a system this well-made and well-heeled.

Those faults aside, the Alienware m17 R3 is still a superb machine, with a killer design and great gaming chops. But compared to other gaming systems on the market, it doesn't reach the highs that we know Alienware can hit.

The M17x R3 made a mockery of our benchmark programs, with 3DMark06 returning a score of 18969, and PCMark05 spitting out an 11798. We feel completely comfortable in saying that anything you put on this thing is likely to run with the smoothness of...
