Asus Transformer Book Trio review

Android and Windows 8 cozy up for Asus' latest convertible

Windows 8 and Android ; Laptop, tablet or PC ; Lightweight tablet

Chunky when docked ; Lackluster keyboard ; Dock bit fiddly

There are two big compromises with this device. The first is cost, the second is weight. There are two big compromises with this approach to a hybrid device. The first is cost. This is an expensive device and you may find yourself asking whether you'd...

Asus Transformer Book Trio TX201LA review

Fusing an Android tablet with a Windows 8 Ultrabook is an impressive feat of engineering, but it's far from an ideal partnership

ASUS Transformer Book Trio hybrid laptop

An Android tablet, Windows 8 laptop, and Windows 8 PC, all in one mixed up product

Separate Android tablet and Windows 8 PC units ; Full HD screen

Felt sluggish during general use ; Base has a hard drive rather than SSD

With the Transformer Book Trio, ASUS gives you a device that can be used as an Android tablet, a Windows laptop or desktop PC. It's a product that continues the company's fine traditional of innovation, but we don't think it's ready for the mainstream...

Asus Transformer Book Trio TX201LA review

Though it flawlessly manages to pair Android with Windows, the Asus Transformer Book Trio stumbles in other areas.

The Trio is the result of three years of creative thinking and innovation from Asus, and in some ways it’s an excellent device. Transitioning from Android to Windows is easy, and the hardware paired with each OS is quick enough to provide an enjoyable...

Asus Transformer Book Trio

The Asus Transformer Book Trio is an intriguing concept that weds an Android tablet and a Windows PC, but the ambitious 3-in-1 design falls short.

Combines tablet convenience and laptop productivity. Has both Windows and Android capability. Decent performance in both operating systems.

Expensive. Awkward union of tablet and laptop with hardware switching. Kludgy file sharing between laptop and tablet. Tablet portion occasionally failed to turn on during testing.

The tablet is outfitted with 16GB of onboard storage, which is very little—you can fill that space easily with just a few movies. The built-in microSD card slot lets you supplement this with an extra 32GB or 64GB card. The keyboard, meanwhile, is...

An Android tablet, Windows 8 laptop, and Windows 8 PC, all in one mixed up product

Separate Android tablet and Windows 8 PC units ; Full HD screen

Felt sluggish during general use ; Base has a hard drive rather than SSD

We think that if you're after both an Android tablet and a laptop, just go on ahead and get two separate devices. After all, you can still use a regular laptop as a 'PC Station' while you use your Android tablet for other tasks. The only reason you...

Asus Transformer Book Trio

The Asus steps up the hybrid market with their Transformer Book Trio. Not only is it a tablet and laptop, the detachable keyboard can plug into a monitor, effectively making it a desktop PC. The 3-in-1 design is possible as the tablet and keyboard...

Full HD display with good color reproduction, Relatively smooth performance in tablet and laptop mode, Three distinct configuration modes: tablet, laptop and desktop PC, Functional Android and Windows 8 OS

Combined with the keyboard, weighs a hefty 3.7 pounds, Icons and text are too small in Windows mode, File sharing between tablet and laptop has limited uses, Poor battery life

Review: Asus Transformer Book Trio TX201LA

While Asus has created countless Windows and Android devices, the Transformer Book Trio TX201LA is the first to unite the two platforms.

Great concept, but money can be better spent.

Flexible, good for android users

Good laptop/tablet hybrid overall. A little heavier than ultrabooks but has two operating systems. HDD able to be replaced by SSD which significantly improves performance. Trouble with screen not turning on in Windows when disconnecting from external...
