Asus ROG Zephyrus review (GX501)

Ultra-thin, as well as remarkably quiet and benchmark-crushingly powerful, the Asus ROG Zephyrus is one hell of a gaming laptop

Massive power ; Innovative, modern design ; Amazingly quiet cooling system ; Ultra-thin Max-Q build

Cramped keyboard ; Poor battery life

Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501 review

The ultra-thin, powerhouse gaming laptop is finally here

Astonishingly powerful ; Innovative and quiet cooling ; Sharp, futuristic aesthetic ; Excellent display and speakers

Laughable battery life ; Poor keyboard ergonomics ; No SD card slot

The Asus ROG Zephyrus sets a high bar for powerful, thin gaming laptops with exceptional performance, whisper quiet operation and a truly innovative design.

Asus ROG Zephyrus review

Nvidia's Max-Q design philosophy blasts off with GTX 1080 power in a tiny body

Seriously slim form factor ; Gorgeous display ; Incredible performance for such a skinny machine

Battery life is non-existent ; Back panel feels flimsy ; Where’s the Ethernet port?

A near-perfect blend of portability and performance, the Zephyrus is what other gaming laptops should aspire to be

Asus ROG Zephyrus review

Editor's note: After conducting additional performance and battery testing, we're updating our initial hands-on of the Asus Zephyrus to a full review.

The super-slim design of the Asus Zephyrus hides excellent gaming performance and a powerful Nvidia 1080 graphics card. The hidden kickstand vent provides cooling while not interfering with portability.

The large cooling vent feels flimsy when opened. The display tops out at standard HD resolution, and the misplaced touchpad on the far right side is tough to get used to.

Asus has created a surprisingly slim Nvidia 1080 gaming laptop in the Zephyrus. It's expensive and has a few design quirks, but it's also very portable and just plain fun to use.

Hands-on: Asus ROG Zephyrus review

Nvidia's new Max-Q standard means an ultra-thin gaming laptop can still have a GTX 1080 graphics card. We go hands-on with one of the first in the Asus ROG Zephyrus at Computex 2017.

There's very little to dislike about the Asus ROG Zephyrus. As one of the first Nvidia Max-Q devices, this thin and light laptop has incredible specs including a full-blown GTX 1080. It might be expensive but it's cheaper than Acer's rival, but we want...

Asus ROG Zephyrus S

It's so thin and light, you'd hardly know it was a gaming laptop. The new Zephyrus S from Asus is more compact than some Ultrabooks but has a GTX 1060. Find out how in our hands-on review.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Max-Q Gaming Laptop Review

Until now, most gaming laptops have been exercises in excess. To foster playing the latest PC games at high quality settings and with no performance compromise, manufacturers have wedged mobile parts you'd normally use for a desktop PC into a form...

Solid build quality ; Amazing aesthetics ; Outstanding performance for a thin-and-light laptop ; Color and grayscale accurate display with great contrast ; Unique thermal dissipation approach

Awkward touchpad placement ; Performs much warmer than a traditional gaming laptop ; Poor battery life ; Thermal panel is flimsy ; Expensive

The Asus ROG Zephyrus packs outstanding performance in an ultrabook-like form factor, accomplishing what we previously thought was impossible. Plus, you won't get judgemental stares if you use it in public! This laptop is sexy.

Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501VI Gaming Laptop Review

The Asus ROG Zephyrus is a test case for a new kind of laptop, but it's also a cautionary tale.

Thin and light ; Excellent performance ; Stylish design

Very poor battery life ; Too hot to use as a laptop

Asus ROG Zephyrus S

The Zephyrus S is among the most portable gaming laptops you can buy, but short battery life means you can't stray far from an outlet. On the charger, though, it's an attractive and capable high-end machine.

Super-slim design with powerful components. Sturdier build than predecessor. Capable of 60fps maximum-quality gaming, if only just. Narrow screen bezels. 144Hz display refresh rate. Multiple USB-C ports.

Short battery life undermines portable form. Keyboard and touchpad design take getting used to. No G-Sync support. GPU can't leverage 144Hz screen in many games.

Bottom Line: The Zephyrus S is among the most portable gaming laptops you can buy, but short battery life means you can't stray far from an outlet. On the charger, though, it's an attractive and capable high-end machine.
