Asus's ROG Strix brand is the company's way of producing quality mid-range gaming hardware without the extreme performance – or price tag – of the pure ROG machines. The GL702VM is a clear mid-range machine, undercutting its rivals while still...

A powerful but unbalanced gaming laptop
Impressive multi-threaded pace ; Solid speed in gaming ; Decent ergonomics
Louder and hotter than rivals ; Other machines are better in games ; Heavy, thick and with no internal access
The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is fast, especially in multi-tasking, but poor components and unbalanced design hinder it in other departments

Aside from an issue with the trackpad, it's easy to recommend this gaming laptop. Here's our Asus ROG Strix GL702VM review
We have just one issue with the Asus ROG Strix GL702V: its trackpad does some strange things, most likely because of driver issues. Operating under the assumption this can or will be fixed, this is a great gaming laptop. It’s not incredibly expensive...

The ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC is a laptop made for AMD fans. It's powered solely by desktop-class hardware from the red camp, but how does it stack up against the competition?
Excellent multi-threaded performance thanks to desktop Ryzen 7 1700 CPU;Great speakers and display;Decent gaming performance
Very poor battery life;Thick and heavy design;Noisy fans;Cooling system does not seem to be adequate

Very good gaming for a notebook that is still portable.
Faster 17in notebooks are available.
The ASUS ROG Strix GL702VT provides very good gaming in a package that has the battery life and weight to make it still portable, and it’s reasonably priced too.

Powerful desktop CPU; Specialized gaming software; Great speakers ; Slow storage speeds; Runs hot; Dismal battery life ; The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC has a desktop-level CPU and plays most games well, but it gets hot fast and has slow storage speeds.

Very power-hungry. The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC can run all the latest games smoothly on its matte screen. The laptop comes equipped with a Ryzen 5 1600 hexa-core processor, a Radeon RX 580 GPU and a hybrid drive. This entry-level model forgoes an SSD.
bright, contrasty display ; Full HD resolution ; FreeSync ; a lot of storage space ; an empty M.2 slot ; CPU is removable ; plenty of multi-core performance
high energy consumption during idle ; heavy AC adapter ; very poor battery life ; no Thunderbolt 3 ; no SSD ; hard-to-upgrade RAM
The gaming notebook from Asus can run most games smoothly at Full HD resolution and with high graphics settings. Only a few titles require lowering the resolution and/or graphics settings. AMD’s FreeSync Technology creates a smooth gaming experience on...

Sensation. While AMD's Ryzen architecture has already been available in the desktop range for several months, the notebook range had to wait patiently for a long time. The waiting is over now: Asus is the first manufacturer who provided us with a...
finally, a high-end notebook for AMD fans again ; not too thick or heavy case despite desktop CPU ; outstanding multi-core performance ; convenient interface layout ; convincing IPS panel ; replaceable processor ; keyboard light ; decent sound ;...
very loud in 3D mode ; very high power consumption ; lid tends to creak ; poor battery life ; no Thunderbolt 3 ; huge power supply ; only 4 GB VRAM ; no PCIe SSD
The verdict on the Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC depends on the intended use. Professional users who depend on highest possible CPU performance and/or profit heavily from it will get an almost incomparably fast platform in the 17-incher. The 8-core Ryzen 7...

Slim gaming laptop. Asus packs a lot of gaming power into a slim 17.3-inch notebook. Even so, the laptop does not produce too much noise or heat. Due to the deactivated integrated GPU, the laptop consumes more power while idling than necessary.
Matte IPS screen ; Full HD resolution ; G-Sync ; Plenty of storage ; Unoccupied M.2 slot ; Thunderbolt 3
iGPU deactivated ; No full Turbo exhaustion ; Relatively high power consumption in idle state ; The click pad doesn't always function properly
With the GL702VM, Asus offers a relatively slim 17.3-inch gaming notebook. But, do not be fooled by the slim exterior; the laptop packs a good dose of processing power. A quad-core Core i7 and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1060 graphics core form a duo which...

The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is an enticing and unusual gaming laptop. Not only does this machine rely on an AMD processor and graphics card – an odd sight in 2018 – it uses desktop parts rather than laptop silicon. The GL702ZC pairs a current-generation...
Our Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC laptop review demonstrates that the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 delivers fantastic multi-threaded performance that will help tackle all sorts of tough tasks – but the presence of desktop components is a double-edged sword. It...
