Asus ROG Strix GL703V review

1080p gaming from a well known brand

Vivid screen ; Good 1080p gaming performance

Poor battery life ; Keyboard gets warm during gaming

Asus’s ROG Strix GL703V gaming laptop offers great 1080p gaming without too much bulk.

Asus RoG Strix GL703VM Scar Edition

A 17in gaming laptop doesn't need to be as thick and heavy as a scaffolding plank. Asus has proved this with the excellent RoG Strix GL703VM Scar Edition.

ASUS ROG Strix Scar (GL703VM) Laptop Review

ASUS ROG's Strix Scar laptop is aimed squarely at first person shooter gamers. It boasts GTX 1060 gr It's a 17.3-in gaming laptop with an i7 and a GTX 1060 – worth £1599.99?

Good looking.

Very loud.

The ROG Strix Scar is a very competent laptop. It is great for 1080p gaming, looks good and is actually pretty portable considering the screen size. We just feel it could do with a slight price cut to bring it in-line with other similar laptops.

Asus ROG Strix GL703GM Scar Edition (8750H, GTX 1060, FHD 120 Hz) Laptop Review

Cooler, faster, better. The mid-2018 edition of the Strix GL703 Scar Edition comes with hexa-core Coffee Lake-H i7 processor, same Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics and a significantly redesigned cooling system. The changes are largely positive.

attractive design ; very good gaming performance ; remains much cooler than before ; 120 Hz TN display with improved response times ; easy maintenance ; good input devices

still a bit noisy under load ; TN display with low viewing angle stability ; fairly dim display ; battery life is mediocre ; no Optimus or G-Sync

Much better thermal management thanks to a redesigned heat pipe and fan system, slightly less noise, and an increase in performance of between 15 - 25 percent: the GL703GM is a definite improvement over the GL703VD with previous-generation i7...

Asus GL703GE (Core i7-8750H, GTX 1050 Ti) Laptop Review

Caffeine boost. The Asus GL703GE packs in more processor performance than ever thanks to Intel's new Core i7-8750H CPU. The Coffee Lake chip is a shot in the arm for processor-reliant tasks, and the 120 Hz display has been improved. Still, the price...

well-built and attractive case ; relatively slim and light ; beautiful color-accurate display ; 120 Hz refresh rate display makes for smooth gameplay (provided fps can be pushed high enough) ; ample port selection ; upgrades are simple ; RGB keyboard...

pricey considering the competition ; battery life is limiting ; SSD is inconsistent and has slow write speeds ; CPU performance gains don't make much difference in current games ; CPU performance is lower than other Core i7-8750H laptops ; Poor value...

The Asus GL703GE is, in essence, a refinement of Asus' 17-inch ROG Strix line. The GTX 1050 Ti variant checks a lot of boxes without leaving many things to slip through the cracks. The star of the show is without a doubt the Intel Core i7-8750H. The...

Asus ROG Strix GL703VM Scar Edition (7700HQ, GTX 1060, FHD 120 Hz) Laptop Review

Hotter, Louder, Faster, Stronger. The Asus ROG Strix GL703VM is a more powerful version of the GL703VD, which we reviewed back in October. In addition to a faster GPU, the GL703VM brings a 120 Hz display, but fan noise and temperatures leave room for...

well-built, attractive chassis ; relatively lightweight ; excellent gaming performance ; 120 Hz display makes for smooth gameplay (if framerates get high enough) ; plethora of ports ; relatively easy maintenance ; good keyboard

CPU throttles under load ; gets very hot on CPU and exterior body ; disappointing battery life ; high amounts of backlight bleed in our unit ; mechanical HDD is frustratingly slow and behaves inconsistently

The Asus ROG Strix GL703VM is a laptop of compromise. There are some great points to celebrate: the device's gaming performance is excellent for its class, the 120 Hz display is fluid, there is a generous amount of ports, and the chassis is fairly...

Asus ROG Strix GL703VD-DB74 (7700HQ, GTX 1050, FHD) Laptop Review

Sleek & affordable gaming? The Asus ROG Strix GL703VD is a 17.3-inch entry-level to mid-range gaming notebook which tries to find the right balance between style, performance and price. Unfortunately, Asus' new notebook runs too hot and is too noisy...

slim, sturdy and upscale-looking design ; bright, usable 1080p display ; NVMe M.2 SSD + 2.5-inch HDD bays ; hardware is easy to access ; decent keyboard ; great battery life

runs way too hot under load ; can get very loud ; no G-Sync or 120 Hz display option (need to step up to GL703VS/VM) ; no other GPU options ; average touchpad

We are left with a mixed impression: on one hand, the Asus ROG Strix GL703VD is a well-built and extremely slim 17-inch gaming notebook which performs well, features decent ergonomics and comes with a very bright and reasonably accurate matte Full HD...

ASUS ROG Strix GL703VM review – the best of the GL-series but still has its quirks

Long months after the initial release of the GTX 1000-series GPUs and only just now, ASUS has released its GTX 1060-powered gaming laptop. That's, of course, if we don't count the simil…

Thin and light for a 17-inch gaming laptop;Good keyboard for typing;Optional 120 Hz IPS panel with G-Sync;Even the standard 60 Hz IPS panel offers excellent image quality;Keeps the hardware running at full throttle even under extreme workload

Suboptimal materials, flexible base unit;Bad touchpad;G-Sync limited to selected configurations;High inner and outer temperatures under load;Extremely short battery life

Consumer review (very.co.uk)

I finally have a good laptop!

I was put off by this after reading some reviews on other sites, I think those are heavily skewed in one directly as most people who have no issue never leave a good review. Which is why I am doing so. This thing is a beast, I have a i7 8700k RTX 2080...

ASUS ROG Strix GL703GS 17.3" Intel® Core™ i7 GTX 1070 Gaming Laptop - 1 TB HD & 512 GB SSD

It is a strong laptop. Really good for gaming and the performance is outstanding. I was afraid spending this much money on it but really made me happy in short time.

Since it got too powerful hardware on top performance level it drains the battery even if it plugged in. Also heavy, but this is not a laptop you want to carry around anyway.
