15-inch Macbook Pro 2017 Review: In Depth

MacBook Pro 15-inch 2017 review: Apple's latest MacBook Pro boasts some great new features. Here's our review of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

Supremely powerful ; Gorgeous screen ; Unbeatable usability ; Powerful audio

Limited battery life ; No bundled adapters

Starting at £2349 here in the UK, the latest 15-inch model of Macbook Pro certainly isn’t cheap. This is a premium machine through and through, and obviously not aimed at anyone who just needs to get online and play the odd bit of Minecraft..

MacBook Pro 15-inch (2017) review

Kaby Lake processors, improved graphics: is that enough to make the 15-inch MacBook Pro a pro laptop? We review Apple's latest to see if the high asking price is justified.

It's excellent news that Apple has moved to the seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake processors, we are also pleased to see new graphics cards. Performance is outstanding. The 15-inch MacBook Pro would still benefit from a few other pro features, a 4K...

MacBook Pro (2017) review

Kaby Lake processors, Improved graphics and a new, lower price for the entry-level model: is that enough to make the MacBook Pro a pro laptop?

It's excellent news that Apple has moved to the seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake processors. Of course the eighth generation chips probably won’t be that far away but if we always waited for the next big thing we’d never get anything new to play with.

No longer the king of high-end laptops, but still royalty

The old but still current 15-inch MacBook Pro's flawed keyboard bogs it down, but the giant touchpad and its performance hold up pretty well against newer competitors.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro may be a bit old, but its performance and battery life still fare well compared with newcomers. The giant touchpad is a pleasure to use and the display is excellent.

Having only USB-C ports can be a hassle, and the keyboard is at best an acquired taste -- and at worst possibly defective. A lot of people may think it's not worth paying a premium for the Touch Bar.

For creative work, it's still top-notch, but the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is no longer a no-brainer buy.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch (2017)

This year's MacBook Pro is similar to last year's model, adding slight improvements in speed and major battery life improvements to the iconic design. If you're willing to pay the premium, it's the best large-screen Apple laptop yet.

Sturdy, sleek aluminum build. Beautiful display. Four USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3. Excellent Category-leading 15-hour battery life.

Pricey. Competitors offer a 4K screen for less. Only USB-C ports, making adapters for legacy peripherals a requirement. Shallow keyboard.

If you're not an Apple adherent, the 2017 Dell XPS 15 Touch is pretty slick in its own right, and is simply faster and more fully featured, only lacking in battery life comparatively. It costs significantly less as tested, and on top of that, delivers...

Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (15-inch, 2017) review

I'll start off with the good news. If you splurged on one of Apple 's very expensive high-end 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops when its big redesign was launched in the fall of 2016 , you're not going to feel especially put out by this modest mid-2017 update.

The updated 15-inch MacBook Pro gets faster processing and graphics options. It's still the biggest and most-powerful laptop Apple makes. The giant touchpad is easy to use and battery life is excellent.

Having only USB-C ports can be a hassle. The super-flat keyboard is an acquired taste.

Even if you're not sold on the idea of the Touch Bar, this slightly updated MacBook Pro is still the king of high-end laptops, especially for the creative class.

Apple MacBook Pro (15 inch) review

Not very long ago, to be the 15-inch MacBook was to be the life of the laptop party. Big and powerful, yet still slim and attractive, the college kids wanted MacBook Airs, while the designers and artists wanted the 15-inch MacBook Pro (or, in a few...

A faster processor, improved graphics, and USB 3.0 highlight a series of internal improvements in the new 15-inch MacBook Pro .

The unchanged design is starting to feel a little dated. Any real structural changes, HDMI, higher-res displays, were reserved for the Retina display version of the MacBook Pro.

Another year of incremental improvements for the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro help it maintain its lead as a useful, powerful, attractive midsize laptop, but the competition is closer than ever to catching up.
