Force Touch and top-end specs in the mid-2015 update
New processors ; Good battery life ; Fast ; fast ; fast
No latest-gen Intel chips ; Heavy for a portable Mac ; Needs an update

Apple says it's reinvented the laptop; we just think that it's made a really, really nice one
Great everyday performance ; Terrific screen ; Amazing portability ; Big-sounding speakers ; Lovely, haptic touchpad
Lack of ports can be very frustrating ; Super-shallow keyboard ; By no means a powerhouse
The result of a singular vision for what a future laptop should be – and a lovely, desirable thing, despite the compromises

The latest Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina display gets a Force Touch trackpad and better battery capacity than its predecessor, but it faces stiff competition.

Better performance and battery life earn the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (LED) an Editors' Choice to stack up beside those of previous MacBook Pros.
Battery-conserving LED screen. Fast processor. Awesome graphics card. Best bundled software suite out there. Lightest 15-inch laptop on the market.
Laptop heats up when running Windows XP Pro under Boot Camp. Needs more USB ports.

Now that it's got the Core 2 Duo upgrade, the much-awaited Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch can contend with the best laptops on the market.
Fastest Core 2 Duo processor available. Terrific performance scores. Best-looking laptop on the market. Now has a FireWire 800 port and can burn dual-layer DVDs.
Battery life could be better.

Expensive pleasure. More performance, a new Force Touch TrackPad as well as longer battery runtimes are supposed to make the reworked MacBook Pro 15 even more appealing – and therefore justify a retail price far in excess of the 2000 Euros (~$2252)...
flawless aluminum chassis, triple-stream WLAN, 2x Thunderbolt, excellent input devices, great application performance, excellent display, silent with light workloads, long battery runtimes
only 2x USB 3.0, extremely high price, poor maintainability and upgradeability, limited Windows operation, only 12 months warranty
This time, we want to start our verdict with the negative aspects, and there are some despite the final rating of 88%. We cannot understand the decision to launch a device with Haswell processors at this time. The new quad-core CPUs from the Broadwell...

This MacBook looks like last year's, but it has a new trackpad, faster flash memory and better GPU.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro has a brilliant Retina Display, powerful processor and new graphics card options, plus faster flash storage and a new Force Touch trackpad.
It offers only the most minimal upgrades over last year's version, despite a very high starting price. The new AMD graphics don't do much for gamers.
Current 15-inch MacBook Pro owners won't feel the need to upgrade, but the handful of tweaks included here keep this expensive system at the top of the list for powerful midsize laptops.

Replacing the iBook, Apple's MacBook, the little sibling to the more powerful, feature-rich, and expensive MacBook Pro, features a 13.3-inch wide-screen and a new color choice. It corrects a handful of the iBook's shortcomings, hits a reasonable price...

Beautiful, sleek design; big, bright display; dual-core CPU; robust software package, including Mac OS X Tiger; illuminated keyboard and scrollable touch pad; DVD burner; built-in Webcam; remote control; can run Windows XP using Apple's free Boot Camp...
Lacks media card reader and some other ports; only 90 days of toll-free technical support.
With a solid array of components, a terrific set of features, and the lightest weight of any laptop its size, Apple's 17-inch MacBook Pro is a power user's dream, but it doesn't come cheap.

The updated machine gets super fast flash storage, as well as the new Force Touch trackpad, an improved dedicated GPU and an extra hour of battery life. It didn't get new processors, but in practice, it's still a worthwhile upgrade for those who need...
New flash storage speeds things up considerably ; Force Touch trackpad is especially useful for pro creative tasks
Same processor as last year’s model
This latest new MacBook line update from Apple isn’t the most dramatic change for its notebooks, but it is one that pushes the needle in non-trivial ways among key areas like battery life and general performance speed. Intel’s delays mean that it’s...
