Apple's little MacBook Pro gets a big refresh

Design remains the same ; Still lacks ports

The new MacBook Pro M1 13-inch is a portable powerhouse aimed at creative professionals, with Apple's revolutionary M1 chip
Excellent performance ; Long battery life ; Can run older Mac apps ; Thin and light
Lack of ports ; Design is getting old
Sleek, long-lasting and mightily powerful, the MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020) puts Apple's new M1 chip to brilliant use. This is an excellent showcase for what Apple hardware can do, and if you're a creative professional that wants a portable...

We've been using the new MacBook Pro with M1 processor to find out how it performs. Are there any problems? Is the battery that much better?
Fast and powerful - and paves the way for Apple silicon future ; No obvious issues with multi-tiered app operation - it just works ; Super battery life ; Great screen
Design hasn't changed - and looks a little tired ; No new features beyond the new processor ; Only up to 16GB of RAM ; Touch Bar still not a must-have ; Just the two ports
This feels like the start of something impressive thanks to new Apple silicon in the M1 processor - which results in lots of power and impressive battery life. It will be fascinating to see not only where Apple goes next, but how the industry responds.

We go Mac to the future with the M1 chip – but not this notebook's design, which is very much rooted in the past rather than looking forward
Speedy and responsive ; Display remains first-class ; Battery lasts for ages ; Mostly whisper quiet
Design starting to age ; Limited connectivity ; Webcam isn’t that great ; Dare we say it: no touchscreen
We’d love two more Thunderbolt ports and a redesign, but colour us surprised the entry level MacBook Pro has this much to offer.

Apple launched two generations of MacBook Pro models in 2020, one at the beginning and one at the end. The model on test here is the later version, featuring Apple's first-ever own-brand processor (the Apple M1)...

How do the new M1-powered 13in MacBook Pros compare to the ones they replace - and the 2.0GHz models that are still on sale?
The fact that Apple has brought new levels of performance and battery life to the MacBook Pro, all without an increase in price, makes the new M1-powered machines incredibly easy to recommend. These are without doubt the future for the Mac, so if you...

Benchmarks tell us a lot, but how does the M1 MacBook Pro perform in practice? We compared it to our four-year-old 15in MacBook Pro to find out.

Apple's MacBook Pro is equipped with Apple's own M1 processor, which turns out to be fast and has a fast GPU on board. The CPU does not suffer from throttling under load and appears to be economical because during browsing we achieve an excellent...

A revolutionary leap in performance and battery life.
Simply insane performance ; Great battery life ; Top-notch build quality ; Good display ; Excellent speakers, good mic ; Support for Thunderbolt 3 and USB4 ; Unbeatable performance for the price
Dated design ; Only two USB-C ports ; Superfluous Touch Bar ; Shoddy webcam

It's finally here. At long last, Apple has updated its 13-inch MacBook Pro with the Magic Keyboard.
Awesome display ; Excellent performance ; More storage and memory as standard ; Fantastic keyboard and trackpad ; Great speakers ; Class-leading build quality ; Four USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports
Feels quite heavy for a 13-inch notebook ; Design starting to look dated ; No support for Wi-Fi 6 ; No SD card reader
