Acer Predator Triton 300 initial review: Gaming laptop minus the mega price

You might not think 'gaming laptop' and 'entry-level' go hand in hand, but the Triton 300 is designed to be far more affordable than most.

At first we thought the idea of an 'entry-level gaming laptop' sounded like a contradiction, but with a sensible price and strong spec, plus those gaming extras like Ethernet and 144Hz screen refresh, the Triton 300 should hold lots of appeal for those...

Acer Predator Triton 300 Review: Thin, With Dynamic Boost

Max-Q Dynamic Boost tends to give it a few extra frames in games.

Lightweight for a gaming laptop ; Strong port selection ; Max-Q Dynamic Boost usually adds a few frames

Way too much bloatware ; Mixed productivity performance

The Acer Predator Triton 300 is a lightweight gaming laptop with solid gaming performance and Max-Q Dynamic Boost. But it’s swimming in bloatware and offers lesser productivity performance than some competitors.

Acer Predator Triton 300 Laptop Review

Acer's Predator Triton 300 is a gaming laptop with few surprises.

Attractive, slim design ; Excellent 240 Hz display ; Solid gaming performance

So-so keyboard and touchpad ; Middling CPU performance ; Short battery life

There’s another point that might give you pause. Acer announced a new Helios 300 laptop with an Nvidia RTX 3070 for the spring of 2021. That will no doubt outperform all currently available RTX 2070 gaming laptops. It’s unclear exactly when the new...

Acer Predator Triton 300 (PT315-52) review – stylish design, quick displays, and 10th Gen Intel processors

After the Triton 300 (PT315-51) of last year was pretty much a carbon copy of the Helios 300 and the Nitro 5, we were left with something to demand. And now, it seems like Acer has listened. Althou…

Great price/performance ratio;Good keyboard with decent travel, clicky feedback, and an optional RGB backlight;Three M.2 slots; The display doesn’t flicker at any brightness level (LM156LF-2F01);Has a good contrast ratio and comfortable viewing angles...

Lacks an SD card reader and Thunderbolt support;Either you get warm internals or fans that will blow your ears off;Covers only 50% of sRGB and has slow response times (despite the fast refresh rate) (LM156LF-2F01)

Acer Predator Triton 300 (PT315-51) review – haven’t we seen this one already?

Among all of the Predator brands of Acer, there is one in particular, that received a major overhaul this season – the Triton. Earlier this year, we were able to get our hands on both the Tri…

All-aluminum build;91% sRGB coverage and no aggressive PWM for brightness adjustment (Innolux N156HCE-N1);Great keyboard for gaming;Upgradability is on point with two M.2 PCIe SSD slots;PredatorSense app offers good customization;Impressive battery life

Lacks Thunderbolt connector;Doesn’t feature an SD card reader;Gets warm in long gaming sessions

ACER Predator Triton 300 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, RTX 2070, 1 TB SSD

Powerful enough for new AAA titles. Excellent screen and storage. Nice and slim. Stiff and well built chassis. Decent ammount of I/O.

Loud, with cooling at its strongest use of noise cancelling headphones is mandatory. Not using full cooling heats up the chassis to uncomfortable level. I have to point out that this is a minor issue considering the laptops size. HDMI out on the right...

ACER Predator Triton 300 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, RTX 2070, 1 TB SSD

Screen, processor and Gfx card are all very good for this price.

As other people have commented, when Gfx intensive games are played, the fans can become a bit noisy. For some reason, the speakers are pretty quiet, and we have then turned up max most of the time.

ACER Predator Triton 300 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, GTX 1660 Ti, 1 TB SSD

Clear screen

Audio volume very quiet with various apps and almost inaudible. Battery life very poor in all circumstances. Cannot turn off the bright lid logo LED.
