The Acer Predator Helios 500 gaming laptop is heavy hitter, including a 144Hz display, Nvidia GTX 1070 and G-Sync. There's even an i9 model available
Effortless overclocking ; Stays reassuringly cool ; 144Hz screen
Huge and heavy ; Poor battery life

A high-powered gaming computer in laptop form
Lots of power for gaming ; Large, color-corrected 144Hz display ; Easily adjustable CPU and GPU ; Configurable fans
Speakers are mediocre ; Bad trackpad ; Not cheap
The Acer Predator Helios 500 is a beast in almost every sense, from its powerful engine that can handle any game to its massive size. If you’re just looking for a monstrous mobile PC gaming machine, this laptop will impress. However, if you’re looking...

Not the best buy for plug-and-play gamer whose idea of performance optimisation ends at installing the latest Nvidia drivers. But if you plan on going
Extremely bright Mini LED screen ; Great cooling system ; Deep keyboard
Terrible battery life ; Very expensive ; The 'extra mile' features won’t benefit some gamers that much ; Motion handling not the best
Not the best buy for plug-and-play gamer whose idea of performance optimisation ends at installing the latest Nvidia drivers. But if you plan on going deep and overclocking components, it’s among the best around.

Six cores, no waiting.

Acer's new high-end gaming laptop is more level-headed than some of the crazy designs the company has launched recently. Here's our first look at the Predator Helios 500.

Acer is going big with the Predator Helios 500. Really big. The laptop ($1,999.99 to start, $2,499.99 as tested) is a 17.3-inch desktop replacement, but it's that space that keeps it so cool, even with a powerful Intel Core i9-8950HK and Nvidia GeForce...
The Acer Predator Helios 500 is a massive gaming laptop that’s easy to overclock and upgrade, but its display could be a little brighter.

With a new Intel Core i9 processor, the Helios 500 is trying to stay one step ahead of the competition.
This is one of the first laptops with Intel's new high-end Core i9 processor, which is paired with a powerful Nvidia 1070 graphics card. Plenty of ports, a big screen and decent lighting options make this a flexible game machine.
Other gaming laptops have more powerful GPUs, better screens, more lighting options and cooler designs, leaving the Helios 500 stuck in the middle of the pack.
The Acer Helios 500 is a big-screen 17-inch laptop that has some excellent components and doesn't cost a fortune, but also offers few surprises.

Acer's Predator Helios 500 squeezes full-fat overclockable GeForce GTX 1070 performance into a 17-inch gaming laptop, but we'd like to see a bit more battery life and chassis polish.

Acer's big, burly and powerful Predator Helios 500 gaming laptop lets you choose between AMD and Intel/Nvidia configurations. They're both powerhouses, but they excel at different things. Read our review for all the details.
8-core Ryzen 7 2700 packs more cores than its Intel rival ; Radeon RX Vega 56 generally outperforms GeForce GTX 1070 ; Plentiful upgrade options ; Pre-approved "overclocking" profiles.
Pretty atrocious battery life ; Skimpy 256GB storage configuration is a puzzler ; Pricey compared to AMD and Core i7 versions ; AMD version outperforms in multi-core tests
Overall, the Acer Predator Helios 500 is a solid laptop that really takes on different personalities depending on which configuration you buy.
