Acer Nitro 5 (2021, AMD) initial review: An affordable, customisable gaming laptop

With updated AMD innards and a screen with up to QHD resolution at 165Hz the Nitro 5 starts affordable but offers a lot of customisation.

Great specs for the price - and highly customisable (if you can afford it)

Feels slightly flimsy in places ; Needs more storage as standard

Once again proof that good gaming performance won't necessarily need to cost your a fortune. Although it'll depend just how much you customise the options.

Acer Nitro 5 (2021) review

This affordable Acer Nitro 5 deploys Nvidia and AMD hardware for surprisingly potent performance

Impressive 1080p gaming power ; Superb AMD processor ; Comfortable keyboard ; Very affordable

Underwhelming display ; Mediocre battery life ; Not that many extra features

The Acer Nitro 5 has good core power, a solid keyboard and a low price, so it's a tempting option if you want a gaming laptop on a budget. You will have to put up with some sacrifices, though.

Acer Nitro 5 (2021, 15-inch) Review

Powerful AMD CPU ; High-res WQHD display ; Accepts three storage drives ; Decent battery life

Plastic build is less appealing in high-end configurations ; Max-Q GPU limits performance in RTX 3070 model

Acer's Nitro 5 gaming laptop, refreshed for 2021, delivers friendly features at a reasonable price in its entry and mid-level configurations.

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-45) review – do we have a new budget gaming king?

The choice of budget gaming laptops nowadays is pretty much limitless. But before you search for any device you have to pick between Intel and AMD. And since we've already covered the Intel v…

Great price/performance ratio;Decent keyboard with an optional RGB backlight;Fast-paced display options; Two M.2 slots + 2.5-inch SATA (connector and screws included inside the box); The display doesn’t flicker at any brightness level (Innolux...

Lacks an SD card reader and Thunderbolt support;Covers only half of sRGB (Innolux N156HRA-EA1 (CMN1521));Slow pixel response times (Innolux N156HRA-EA1 (CMN1521))

Once more, Acer has done a pretty good job to balance between the compromises of low costs, and performance. Ultimately, there are some key features that will make you consider this product. First and foremost – you get very capable hardware that is...

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-57) review – this one has improved

The popularity of Acer's Nitro series is undeniable. The main reason for this is the fact that these devices combine decent hardware with a reasonable price tag. The Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-57) i…

Great price tag for what it is;Nice keyboard with decent travel, clicky feedback, and an optional RGB backlight; Two M.2 slots with RAID 0 support and a regular SATA port; The display doesn’t flicker at any brightness level (Innolux N156HRA-EA1);Has a...

Lacks an SD card reader;Unimpressive battery life;Covers only 53% of sRGB (LG LP156WFC-SPD5)

The Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-57) is a refreshed device that surprises us with its decent performance. The price tag of it isn’t too wallet-stretching but at the same time, it offers a lot of bang for its money. The build quality is just fine for this kind...

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R9QH (2021) Review

The decked-out Acer Nitro 5 pushes frames, but it doesn't do much else.

Extremely powerful ; Good keyboard and trackpad ; Speedy display

Limited features ; Heavy ; Short battery life

The Nitro 5 is among the best gaming laptops in terms of raw performance. However, performance isn’t everything, and the Nitro 5 offers neither the best value nor the best features for the money. It’s the cheapest laptop with an RTX 3080, but as we...
