Acer Aspire S3 2014

Hands-on at CES 2014: Get a look at Acer's latest affordable Ultrabook

The Acer Aspire S3 is another solid Ultrabook in the Aspire range. It's not a truly dynamic product, but solves several of the earlier model's issues while bringing it into the present with numerous hardware upgrades.

Acer Aspire S3

With its attractive aluminium and magnesium-alloy chassis, nice ergonomics and good screen, the 13in S3 is an exciting entrant in the Ultrabook market.

Attractive and affordable, Slim and sleek, Solid, all-metal chassis, Up to 240GB SSD

Awkward connectivity, No USB 3.0, Average battery life, No keyboard backlighting

Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook

A laptop that's made of metal and just 13mm thin? We like those apples.

Its edges house the 3.5mm headphone jack and SD card slot, while front edge is left empty. There is, predictably, no optical drive. Thin doesn’t come for free.

Acer Aspire S3 review

An Ultrabook-style laptop with dedicated gaming hardware

Decent 1080p IPS screen ; Fairly slim and light ; Metal body

Disappointing battery life ; Somewhat tricky trackpad ; GPU not that powerful

The Aspire S3 is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. However, not every product needs to be a king to be a success. It's only the battery life that really disappoints here.

Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook review

Acer gave us its pre-production Aspire S3 Ultrabook to review

Fast booting ; Slim and light design ; Great processor power

RSI inducing keyboard ; Slightly underwhelming battery ; Some pre-production issues

Acer Aspire S3 review (2014)

Slim, light, good-looking laptops are great. If you spend half your life rushing between places with more work to do than is strictly healthy then a decent one is exactly what you'll need. But to fit the MacBook Air-style blueprint in a Windows 8.1...

Decent screen, dedicated graphics means better gaming than some competitors, versatile

Screen reflections, battery life just ok, keyboard keys a bit shallow, not the most thin/light

The Acer Aspire S3 is an Ultrabook that doesn't aim for superlative performance in any area, but instead balances the price-to-power ratio better than many competitors out there.

Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook

Apple's MacBook Air has started something of a war. Ultrabooks - the name being thrown around to describe manufacturers' slender yet powerful, Windows OS-based laptops - are popping up left, right and centre at the moment. The Aspire S3 is something of...

Slender, light, attractive design, SD card slot, aluminium lid

Not a great screen resolution or viewing angle, plasticky keyboard with bunched up keys, no USB 3.0, poor USB port placement at the rear, so-so battery life, pricey for what it is, review configuration isn’t one available off the shelf

The Aspire S3 is something of a mixed bag. We had high hopes as this Ultrabook’s sublime form and finish looks enticing from the outside.

First Look: Acer Aspire S3 3951

Acer's first foray into the new “Ultrabook” category is with the Aspire S3, a slim and light notebook that offers you a proper hardware loadout without bloating into what were once typical PC dimensions. We've seen a number of moves in the Windows PC...
