Acer Aspire 5738PG - 15.6in Touch-Screen Laptop

Is adding a multi-touch display to an ordinary laptop a gimmick or an inspired move?

Acer Aspire 5738DZG review

The most affordable 3D laptop you can buy, but usability can be a real headache

Affordable way to enjoy 3D ; Truly impressive 3D effect ; Stunningly vibrant screen ; Strong performance for the price

3D effect quickly creates nausea ; TriDef 3D software doesn't work well ; Use of older technology limits future proofing ; Chassis lacks the quality of other Acer laptops

Sitting at the top of the European laptop market, Acer is well known for offering high-quality laptops built around the latest technology, at truly competitive prices.

Acer Aspire 5738PG-644G32Mn review

Touchscreen functionality that really works and a great all-round laptop

Touchscreen ; Decent performance ; Connectivity

Keyboard could be annoying to some

A great laptop with enough power to run all but the most demanding games and with the added boon of touchscreen is very appealing indeed

Stunning power and features make this a near unbeatable bargain 15.6" laptop

Great performance ; Solid build quality ; HDMI ; Good storage

SuperTFT screen is a bit reflective

A solid laptop that goes against its budget roots and offers a powerful and enjoyable computing experience

Acer Aspire 5738PG notebook

Acer's Aspire 5738PG is a touchscreen laptop with a difference. Unlike the previous machines we've seen with touch-sensitive displays, this isn't a Tablet PC – so the screen doesn't rotate at all. Instead, the multi-gesture touch panel is intended to...

A well-specced and powerful laptop, good keyboard, responsive screen

Poor screen hinges, glossy display is a poor choice, touchscreen doesn’t actually add that much to usability

The Acer Aspire 5738PG is a good laptop, offering decent performance in a semi-portable chassis. The stand-out feature here is obviously the touchscreen, and it’s a tricky call as to how much it actually has to offer.

Acer 5738DZG review

Three-dimensional graphics are being touted as the Next Big Thing to hit the world of consumer electronics – for TV, Blu-ray and computer games. But if, instead of investing in new screens, graphics cards and all the accessories, you fancy an easier...

The Acer 5738DZG is a relatively quick laptop with reasonable game-playing potential. But more than that, it provides a good workable one-stop solution to enjoy 3D video from games, photos and video.

Acer Aspire 5738DG review

The focus of this review is obviously the Acer Aspire 5738DG's 3D panel. Unlike nVidia's GeForce 3D Vision we tested earlier, which works with a high-refresh rate monitor paired with liquid crystal glasses, the Aspire 5738DG deploys 3D a little...

Throughout the time we spent on the Acer Aspire 5738DG, we think Acer's attempt to bring the 3D cinema experience down to the confines of a laptop is encouraging. But there's sufficient room for improvement, no doubt. Having said that, for the price,...

Acer Aspire 5738D review

Acer brings 3D to the masses with a 3D screen on a mainstream laptop

Proof that 3D doesn't have to cost four figures, but doesn't quite deliver on the gaming potential

Acer Aspire 5738 3D

The Acer Aspire 5738 3D features 3D technology, Dolby surround sound, a great processor and other great features making this a more than average gaming laptop.

The hard disk is relatively large, contains a fast CPU and the so called 3D is permissible

The 3D feature isn't that impressive and the graphics card is average

The 3D hype has reached a fever pitch recently and the Acer Aspire 5738 3D is capable of delivering a noticeable but average 3D image but in numerous cases it is below average with an image that is ineffective. However, it is still a good machine

Acer Aspire 5738PG

This is a 64bit Windows Notebook that does not cost the earth. The first commercial (rather than an upgrade) product I used was an expensive disappointment, this however should made the juices move, and for an added touch it has touchscreen technology.

To me this is what a modern Windows 7 notebook should be; plenty of power, very responsive and having touch makes certain tasks a joy to complete. Startup was 50 seconds and shutdown a very respectable 8 seconds. My tests were with moderate usage...
