SteelSeries Apex 5 Review

Featuring Hybrid Mechanical Blue keyswitches, an OLED display, wrist rest and RGB lighting, to name but a few, the Apex 5 may cost a bit less than you'd initially expect. But is it any good? Let's h...

+ SteelSeries Hybrid Mechanical keys live up to their claims + OLED display + Different but enjoyable RGB lighting + Price

- Considerably lower lifespan predictions than conventional mech keys - OLED display feels very gimmicky, however fun it may be

SteelSeries have become known for their excellent quality hardware, but also the associated pricetag that would come with them. The Apex 5 proves that keyboards don’t need to cost £200 perform well.

SteelSeries Apex 5 Review

Hybrid switch feels more mechanical than membrane. ; Sleek design with OLED screen. ; Strong RGB options. ; Wrist rest included.

Fully mechanical keyboards available in same price range. ; Single button for all media controls. ; Wrist rest isn't very supportive.

The SteelSeries Apex 5 gaming keyboard finds a better way to blend money-saving membrane and snappy but pricey mechanical switches.

SteelSeries Apex 5 review

A great balance between features and design at an affordable price

Good gaming performance ; Strategic pricing ; OLED display with multimedia controls ; Minimalist design

Non-detachable cable ; Keys are too quiet

The SteelSeries Apex 5 is a solid gaming keyboard that offers great gaming performance and a neat OLED display in a minimalist design.

If RGB lighting isn't a concern, you can get fully mechanical models from companies like Razer, Corsair and Logitech for about $120, and in the long run, they may prove to be more durable — and more comfortable — than the Apex 5. But if you want...

STEELSERIES Apex 5 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

RGB is good with lots of options including individual key illumination that can be set to work with launch of a specific game. Keys are solid and feel like a mechanical keyboard - very clickety clackety if you like that sort of thing.

A usb socket would be good

STEELSERIES Apex 5 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

I love how you can set as many macros as you want. Overall a very good keyboard. Whoever has designed this is a complete genius.

Okay, I think the major improvement the keyboard could have is to add a layer of some sort of a solution that removes fingerprints from such a device. Your team could look into adding a screen guard with no fingerprint sort of solution onto the keys...
