Samsung HT-BD2 Blu-ray Home Cinema System

Cut out the fuss and get yourself a decent 7.1-channel Blu-ray system for an equally decent price.

Samsung HT-BD2 review

Blu-ray enters a brave new world

Good Blu-ray and upscaled DVD video performance ; Loud, bombastic audio

Slooooow load-up times ; Not compatible with all BD-J or BD Live ; No video inputs

A big, booming home cinema system, which you'll either love or hate

Samsung HT-BD2 review

This good value system is the first cinema-in-a-box with Blu-ray

Excellent spec for the money, including fine Blu-ray pictures and sounds, plus 7.1 speakers ; very stylish looks

Treble is a bit harsh, whilst bass isn't quite deep enough ; could do with a little more sonic solidity

The first Blu-ray cinema in a box sets a good standard for others to follow

The first Blu-ray home cinema-in-a-box packs serious tech for a laughably small pot of cash. Is it time to upgrade?

Samsung HT-BD2E home theatre system

The Samsung HT-BD2E is an 800 Watt home theatre system with a built-in Blu-ray disc player, good sound quality and plenty of power.

Rich and balanced sound, involving surround effects, powerful

No wireless rear speakers, no BD-Live, no USB connectivity

This basic home theatre package packs a 5.1 channel amplifier into a Blu-ray player. Simply plug in a flat screen television and you’re ready to go.

Samsung HT-BD2

The Samsung HT-BD2 delivers the sort of top-notch video quality you'd expect from the world's first HTIB with built-in Blu-ray — but its high price, average audio quality, and lack of extras make it tough to recommend.

7.1-channel Blu-ray home cinema ; Built-in Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding ; Elegant styling, with four tallboy speakers ; Full-size subwoofer ; Upscales DVDs to 1080p

Expensive ; Only Blu-ray Profile 1.0 compliant ; Few jacks for connecting external sources ; Slow disc loading ; No auto speaker calibration

Music was a step down from movie sound; we felt the HT-BD2 blurred Radiohead's atmospheric sound mixes on its In Rainbows CD. 'Walk of Life' from Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms CD felt dynamically flat. Like most HTIB systems, the HT-BD2 was more...

Samsung HT-BD2R

Easy to operate and a really good sound and effect when watching your movies. Picture quality is great. Very loud should you want to turn the volume up.

You only receive a short cable for the sub, so although you can place this anywhere in your room unless you want it at the side of your tv you will have to purchase a longer cable. All other cables for speakers are more than adequate. That is the only...
