The result is a device that's surprisingly functional, particularly when you consider it costs barely more than a higher-end fitness band – if you already have a Bluetooth chest strap, it's £30 cheaper still. It lacks one or two notable features, but...
Tracks GPS, heart rate and daily fitness ; Slim and light for GPS tracking ; Excellent features for price
No underwater heartrate monitoring ; No route navigation ; Chest belt needed for heart rate

The owning-ness of the long distance runner
Rock solid run tracking going cheap ; Accurate heart-rate monitor ; Decent value too
Separate HR strap may concern some ; Unlikely to win beauty contests ; Slow syncing
An honestly priced, rugged and reliable running watch. It's not glamorous, but then nor is slogging through sleet at 7am. The Polar M400 won't let you down, and the heart-strap bundle is a great all-round package.

How does Polar's new running watch stack up?
Easy setup ; Detailed workout breakdown ; microUSB charger
Sporty design

The Polar M400 has almost everything you would want in both a running watch and daily activity tracker.
The Polar M400 has good battery life, can sync wirelessly with your phone, includes GPS and activity tracking, charges through a normal Micro-USB and supports wireless heart-rate monitors. It also has automatic sleep tracking, an always-on display with...
The big design may not be appropriate for all environments. There's no vibration for alerts or a silent alarm.
The feature-packed and waterproof Polar M400 offers a good set of features for beginners and advanced runners a like. It also provides feedback on your daily activities and sleep.

An update to the Polar M400 will transform the GPS running watch and activity tracker into a full-fledged smartwatch.

The Polar M400 fitness tracker logs your outdoor runs with GPS and measures how much activity you get all day long. It's a compelling choice for runners, but a little too chunky to work as an all-day wearable.
GPS running watch and all-day fitness tracker. Includes sleep tracking. Waterproof. Supports push notifications. Available in several colors. Durable. Great app and tracking stats for athletes. Uses micro USB charger. Long battery life.
Chunky, inelegant design. Prominent Polar logo. Slow syncing. Monochrome screen.
Head-to-head, though, I prefer the Garmin Vivoactive, a similar watch at a similar price that comes with a more sophisticated color touch screen, plus apps you can install to further your experience. The Vivoactive is also much sleeker and more...

For a $200 GPS watch, the Polar M400 is a very capable crossover device. It's comfortable; the display is easy to read, and I really like that it can track your activity even when you're not using the GPS feature. Almost all other GPS watches lack this...
Big, bold display ; GPS tracking ; Good battery life
No built-in heart-rate monitor
The Polar M400 is a GPS watch that acts as an all-day activity tracker, making it useful even when you're not running or cycling.

Today, Polar has announced their latest watch, the M400. This running focused GPS watch also contains day to day activity tracking (i.e. steps and sleep) along with smartphone connectivity. The unit priced at $179US/€159EUR, is very competitively...
