Sol Republic Shadow Wireless review: Neck and neck with LG's Tone headphone

With its new $100 Shadow Wireless, Sol Republic takes on LG's line of popular around-the-neck Tone Bluetooth headphones and comes away with at least a draw.

The Shadow Wireless has a flexible neckband design that's designed to fit the contour of neck and is comfortable to wear. It's water-resistant, sounds good for a Bluetooth headphones, and is affordable at at $100.

Has elements of a wireless sports headphone but isn't really a sports headphone (the ear tips don't fit securely enough to be used for running). Battery life is decent (8 hours) but not as good as LG Tone Infinims.

The Sol Republic Shadow Wireless headphones deliver solid Bluetooth sound for a reasonable price.

Sol Republic's $99 Shadow puts other wireless earphones to shame [REVIEW]

Compact, light and comfortable ; 8-hour battery ; Powerful crisp sound ; Lifetime ear-tip replacements

Rubber picks up dirt particles easily ; Tinny sound through mic during calls

Sol Republic's Shadow is the best looking, sounding and fitting wireless earphones under $100 you can buy.

SOL Republic Shadow

The SOL Republic Shadow are a set of neckband-style Bluetooth earphones that deliver massive bass response in a flexible design.

Powerful audio with massive bass and very bright highs. Flexible design. Ships with multiple eartips—and a lifetime guarantee of unlimited replacement eartips.

Very sculpted sound signature. Neckband style not for everyone. No carrying pouch.

For $100, the SOL Republic Shadow earphones deliver thunderous bass response in a flexible design. They're not accurate-sounding in the slightest, but will be just the thing some big bass fans are looking for. If you like the idea of neckband-style...

Sol Republic Shadow Wireless (Black)

At launch, the headphone comes two colors -- the black you see pictured and a "rich" gray -- and costs $100 or pretty much exactly what a wireless headphone of this caliber should cost.

Review: Sol Republic Shadow Wireless | Entertaining Bass Cannon Sol Republic Shadow Wireless

If you want the right heavy bass without completely destroying the music, Sol Republic Shadow Wireless is the answer.

Practical and lightweight earbuds. Easy handling. Powerful, but not indiscriminate bass.

Unrefined sound for acoustic music. Battery life is mediocre. No storage bag.

Sol Republic SHADOW Review

Sol Republic's SHADOW earbuds provided us with the best call quality and impressive sounding audio. However, the earbuds do let in some external noises. They are loud enough to drown it out but at the risk of damaging your hearing.

The call quality for this pair of earbuds was the best of the pairs we tested.

You have to increase the volume significantly to block out external noises.

These earbuds are stylish, comfortable and provide a high-quality audio. However, they struggle to block out external audio.

Review: Sol Republic Shadow wireless earphones

There's nothing quite like being liberated from the cables that wired earphones rely on, but often the prices of wireless earphones don't match up to the performance. Fortunately, Sol's Shadow feels like it finds a middle ground.

Comfortable to wear; Great sound; Higher volume than most earphones achieve; Neat “NASA inspired” design;

Buttons seem a little backward when it comes to using them; Volume bug tends to occur after a phone call, forcing lower volume output than when you restart it; Bluetooth can cut out randomly, generally without reason;
