TomTom Start 10 GPS unit

TomTom Start 10 review: The Start 10 adds advanced lane guidance to TomTom's cheapest sat nav in Australia

Ease of use, EasyPort mount, speed and red light camera alerts, advanced lane guidance

IQ Routes still prefers main roads, route recalculation is a little sluggish, no Australian text-to-speech voice, no included AC adapter

The TomTom Start 10 has spoken street names, an EasyPort mount system, IQ Routes technology and now includes advanced lane guidance. Its screen is a little small and entering text requires a firm press, but this GPS is easy to use and functional.

TomTom Start 10

Price. Folds up compactly. Lane guidance for most streets. Junction view.

Speaker completely encased, sounds hollow and cheap. On-screen typing may be tedious for some.

Simple, cheap and capable of getting you from A to B, the Start 10 does what it sets out to do. The inclusion of junction view and lane guidance improves things quite considerably.

Consumer review (cnet.com.au)

"Good price, but lack of features make use annoying"

Updated (?) from a Tomtom ONE, but lack of display settings and modes make it clumsy to use. Cannot set Always use Tolls. Tips always pop up and cannot see way to disable. Paid $99 from Dick Smith but will replace shortly.

Maps, GPS fix speed

No AutoOFF, volume not speed sensitive, no auto day/light, no route overview
