TomTom Go 910

The Go 910 is TomTom's top of the range GPS navigation system and features maps covering Europe, Canada and North America. It's incredibly easy to set up and comes with a solid, windscreen mounting kit.

SiRF 3 Star chipset, Clear directions

Too much tech for some

If you want the best satnav there is, then buy the 910.

TomTom's latest and greatest device has a specification list longer than that of the car we tested it in, but can it still do the basics?

TomTom GO 910 portable GPS system reviewed

You might wish you had sprung for a GPS device before this weekend's little trip to the in-laws, which may or may not have involved two hours of being lost in a pair of cul-de-sacs, but we figured you'd still like to know what you're missing out on....

TomTom GO 910

At $799, the TomTom GO 910 leads the pack with a 4-inch screen, but it doesn't come with a traffic-data receiver.

Excellent language support. User-configurable navigation screen. Excellent text-to-speech capabilities. 4-inch WQVGA screen.

Traffic receiver not included. Limited cell-phone support. Menu system took too many screen taps for some common tasks such as clearing a route.

TomTom Go 910

You've seen those ads, the ones with the driver who keeps repeating his clueless passenger's name and asking for directions. Love or hate those ads, they've given TomTom a certain amount of brand recognition among those looking for a GPS device....

The TomTom GO 910 offers some nice features, including a large screen, but at this price point, the lack of a traffic receiver holds it back.

Performance

TomTom GO 910

The TomTom GO 910 comes preloaded with maps of North America and Europe, and it features integrated Bluetooth, text-to-speech functionality, and a 4-inch color screen. Plus, it has a built-in MP3 player, can display photos, and offers iPod compatibility.

The TomTom GO 910's POI database is outdated, and it comes with a flimsy windshield mount. It's also a bit pricey, and the screen is hard to read in sunlight.

For early adopters, the TomTom GO 910 is the GPS gadget offering the latest and greatest in portable navigation systems. That said, we wish it had a better mounting system and a more up-to-date POI database.

TomTom GO 910

An excellent GPS device that's very easy to use and fully loaded with features.

Fast & accurate ; Text-to-speech functionality ; Bluetooth connectivity ; Remote control

Expensive ; Weak windscreen mount ; Screen is too small

The speaker's volume is quite loud considering its small size. While adequate for reading out directions, playing MP3s through the inbuilt speaker was a letdown. The audio quality was on par with tinny laptop speakers, which is no surprise considering...
