Navman iCN 550 GPS unit - Pocket-lint

A perfectly good system only spoilt by the roughness of the design. Unless you're an early adopter this is probably one to steer clear of

Traffic information on the fly, petrol and parking button, easy to use interface

Requires your dashboard to be filled with wires, Traffic element an afterthought

With the traffic element, the Navman iCN 550 is a worthy satnav system. Add the traffic element to the offering and whilst expensive in the short run does become a compelling offering if you plan to use this over a couple of years.

Navman iCN550

Stand-alone GPS sat nav technology that could put an end to queueing in traffic.

Unlike rival systems which require a Bluetooth connection via a GPRS-enabled mobile phone to receive traffic data, the great thing about the Navman iCN550 is that you don't require any additional hardware.

On a four and a half mile journey from Islington to East Finchley on a busy weekday afternoon the Navman unit achieved mixed results.

A solid easy to use GPS unit. The iCN 550 has an easy to use interface and comes pre-loaded with Australia, Europe and North America maps.

GPS signal strength, 4GB hard drive, Display, User interface, Next Turn map option, Included remote control

Volume, Build could be more rugged.

Navman ICN 550

At the time I bought this, it was the only sat nav that could download speed camera positions and give live traffic data without a subscription or the need to clock up mobile call charges. It does what it says on the box.

It is not clear how the traffic module adds on and works when you buy this. It looks like something built by Heath Robinson. It has one of those aerial wires that you get on a cheap stereo which you have to trail across the inside of the winscreen and...

ICN 550 Review

Not a worthy investment. Useability on the fly is poor. The speed is mediocre. Any other product at 300 MHz or less probably won't do well for speed. Even though it gets you "there" so do other products. It's price point isn't bad but for me it's best...

The product will get the user where the user wants to go ; Lots of points of interests (POI)

The product will get the user where the user wants to go but it often is the long way. There are settings to allow the user to adjust for quickest or shortest combinations but they are almost meaningless. The user cannot easily build a route that is...
