Magellan CrossoverGPS review

Magellan CrossoverGPS

The Magellan CrossoverGPS offers navigation for drivers, boaters, and walkers. The unit is also water resistant and comes with a sport guard for protection. The receiver did a great job of tracking our location, and driving directions were accurate.

General performance was sluggish, and the unit was slow to recalculate routes. It's also too big and heavy to carry on long walks or hikes, and you can't enter specific addresses in Outdoor mode.

The Magellan CrossoverGPS is a versatile GPS, offering navigation help to drivers, boaters, and walkers, but it's tripped up by sluggish performance.

Magellan CrossoverGPS

Not the best road handling, but the offroad features could make it very attractive.

Beaches, Museums, Friends, Family, Better Driving

It's simple already but it can be simpler.

It's the most wonderfullest thing I ever had. I never get lost. Even though you might not know the orientation of the GPS of where it's going, you look at the lower left and it's reliable of where to turn and voice command helps. I love it and sure...

POIs of like bestbin and circus city aren't on there.

Not So Waterproof

This unit warms up quickly, and the touch screen works very nice. This unit also comes with decent accessories.

My first crossover lasted only 30 days and received moisture inside the screen. After haggling with Magellan Corp. they finally sent me a second unit. This unit lasted 2 hours in the Gulf of Mexico as I was fishing. A slight drizzle which lasted 2...

Great piece of equipment

Easy to use, easy setup, easy to install.

Rubber protection boot is to flimsy. Navigational software is to costly.

Optional Traffic Kit Doesn't Work

No real problems with the basic unit.

The optional traffic kit system doesn't work in several of the metro areas that are listed on it's coverage map. If you're buying this with the idea of adding the traffic reporting system you should look at other units.

It works well....but....

I got mine as open box so didn't pay a huge about for it, and am happy for what it does for me today. But unless magellan steps up to the plate and desides to support the unit fully it will end up being a forgotten experiment on magellans part.

Unit does provide a single package with topo, marine and street navigation. Battery life is pretty good and the antenna seems to do pretty well for me even inside a building.

Magellan themselves. Unit Comes with 90 meter topo maps and box says you can purchase more detailed maps. Well if you live in the US (as of this writting) you are out of luck as they they don't seem to have those detailed maps available. They have them...

Wrong side of the Street

A firmware update needs to be applied (download from Magellan website) which I found to help with some of the issues described in other reviews.

Nice to be able to combine the functions of Auto/Marine/Hike into one unit. The Street Maps are decent. Marine is good if BlueNav map is purchased.

I found that the unit has trouble identifying which side of the street an address is on (tells me the address is on the left when in fact it is on the right). Unit has major problems with an address that is at a cross street that you are approaching....

Lacking

This unit is a good step in the rright direction. It would be totally awesome and unbeatable if it had: - Newer maps - replaceable rechargable batteries (preferable AA) so you can bring extra batteries to surpass the 8 hour life of the internal...

Portable, nicely sized, big touch screen. I understand the combination of hardware and maps for the price is quite good.

I had this for two weeks and took it back. It's CPU must be slow because screen switching often took a long time. The maps are old. It locked up a few times. It had tremendous difficulty hadling handheld operation: if you attach to the car, it stays...
