Magellan RoadMate 1470 review

Magellan RoadMate 1470

The Magellan RoadMate's OneTouch menu puts the most commonly accessed destinations and searches at a user's fingertips at all times. The smartly designed destination confirmation screen gives users a good deal of flexibility as to how they get where...

Poorly designed cradle interferes with power cable when mounting. The onscreen keyboard cannot be changed from its alphabetical layout to a more familiar QWERTY layout.

The Magellan RoadMate matches the competition's performance and ease of use, while providing a larger screen at a lower price.

Magellan RoadMate 1470

As GPS prices edge lower and lower, and manufacturers scramble to remain competitive, premium features are becoming more and more common on entry-level models. The latest example of this trend is Magellan's RoadMate 1470 ($299.99 list), which is loaded...

Larger-than-average 4.7-inch screen. Maps for U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Excellent interface and POI search capabilities. AAA TourBook guide. Text-to-speech conversion. Multisegment routing. Lane assist

No pedestrian mode or support for multiple vehicle profiles. Limited route avoidances. Limited language and voice support

With a revamped user interface and features borrowed from Magellan's high-end GPS devices, the RoadMate 1470 is both easy to use and an excellent value.

Magellan – have you consider this name while buying a car GPS navigation device? No! Then we will recommend you to consider this company because it has launched one of the best portable navigation devices - Magellan RoadMate 1470. It costs $249.99 and...

RoadMate 1470 GPS Navigation System

The Magellan Roadmate 1470 GPS system, one of the more intuitive digital navigators out there. Just don't yell at it, because it's not listening.

As GPS Systems go, most feature the same basic functions but stand apart based on things like ease-of-use, interface, etc. Magellan's Roadmate 1470 stands out with big fat buttons on its ample screen, among other things.

Magellan RoadMate 1470 review

The Magellan RoadMate 1470 is one of several new models introduced by the company in the spring of 2009. This 4.7” touch-screen unit offers Magellan's new One Touch interface, AAA TourBook, Highway Lane Assist, exit POIs and multi-destination routing.

I am very impressed with the huge number of improvements in the RoadMate 1470 over previous Magellan models. Magellan fans should be very happy with this unit. I'm not quite ready to recommend it over Garmin and TomTom models, but clearly, Magellan has...

Magellan RoadMate 1470 Review

Magellan's RoadMate 1470 is the first product released since the company was acquired by Mitac earlier this year, and if the 1470 is any indication, this is going to be a very good union indeed.

"Device is better than support"

Since Magellan seems to be the only company that has partnered with AAA to provide their Tour Book information (which can updated for free by AAA members) it gives them a definite advantage. However, even though most, if not all, or their current...

The device works fine, although it tells me I have arrived home when passing a neighbors house about four houses away. Fortunately I come home sober and don't go into the wrong driveway. ;-)

Magellan leaves older customers in the dust by no providing the same perks as they now do on almost all of their popular models: free map and traffic updates.

Good, Solid Performer

This unit is a solid GPS that works very well. There's been a lot of talk about the mounting and non-qwerty keyboard. However, update the firmware to the latest 2.22 and you get more user programmable buttons and the keyboard was switched to qwerty. As...

Large screen, sensitive touchscreen, lots of one-tough programmable buttons, nice mounting option. Picks up satellites really fast compared to other units I've owned. The updated firmware really adds and fixes a lot of things, making it a super-fine GPS

Sometimes the back-button can get a bit sticky (have to press it a few times until it get's a clue, thus minus an egg), usual GPS common sense regarding routing applies. Not a lot of cases made for this size unit

Magellan gets me to where I need to go. ”
