Lowrance iWay 500c

Strong, accurate receiver; large touch screen; maps preloaded on hard drive; built-in MP3 player.

Slightly heavy; USB port is version 1.1.

With its big, colorful touch-screen display, its extremely accurate receiver, and its intuitive user interface, the Lowrance iWay 500c takes its rightful place at the head of its class.

Excellent feature set. Easy to use. Built-in MP3 player. Great value.

Compass direction, bearing, and latitude/longitude could not be displayed on the map screen.

The combination of features, large screen size, and ease of use, coupled with a low price, make the iWAY 500C a sure winner.

Yet the device is portable in the sense that it doesn't weigh a ton. And you can't actually work with it when you're on foot because the only battery the iWay 500c uses is the one in your car: it mounts on the dashboard and plugs into a cigarette...

In our testing, the lists were quite comprehensivealthough, inevitably, some of the listings were out of date. Hotels and restaurants that had gone under or changed hands still appeared in the iWay database

LOWRANCE iWay 500c 5.0" GPS Receiver

Whats the deal with these GPS's having these dinky little screens? I don't get how they figure you're supposed to look at them while driving. My opinion is that they're worthless. Thats one thing that puts this one above the rest. a nice big screen....

I Bought this a number of years ago because I do a lot of driving for work. There were two main reasons I went with this one over the others. At its time of release it got all top awards and it had the biggest screen available. It has been a life saver...

Suction cup mount isn't that good. Kept moving no matter how tight I made it. This has nothing to do with the GPS unit though. I ended up custom fabricating my own mount

Attractive display. Relatively easy to navigate thru menus

It never even made it to the car. It overheated a few times in the house when attached to the ac-adapter. The power adapter to the rear of the unit would not stay in. Several times the software just locked up. Slow boot. Poor reception on even out on...
