LG LN740

LG's top of the line personal navigation device offers traffic info, a large screen, and text-to-speech conversion at a value price.

Large 4-inch screen. Supports text-to-speech conversion in three languages. Built-in traffic receiver. Able to do multisegment routing. Estimated 6-hour battery life.

No audible turn indicator. POI menu awkward to maneuver. Map view doesn't display speed. Separate TMC antenna makes for a messy-looking dashboard.

The LG Portable Navigator LN740 is a good first effort from the company. Yet considering its low-resolution screen and lack of Bluetooth, you could definitely get more for your money with competing systems.

The LN740's low-resolution screen displays weak colors and appears washed out. It also lacks integrated Bluetooth functionality, which can be found in many other competing products. The device's speakers are weak.

Review: LG LN740 Portable Navigation Device

You may know LG as a brand of LCD and plasma TVs and cell phones. Now LG wants you know its name as a maker of GPS navigation systems. Given the rise in popularity of portable nav systems this year, it's not surprising that lots of companies are giving...

When you don't need the unit to tell you where to go, you can use it as an MP3 player or a digital photo viewer via the SD card slot. It's better as a photo viewer than as an MP3 player because it doesn't broadcast the audio to an FM channel or include...

LG's new GPS line looked more promising than most, as the deep-pocketed company spent big bucks developing their own hardware & software rather than outsourcing both to the lowest bidders. Can LG compete with Garmin, Magellan, and TomTom in the...
