Google Maps promises a free solution to the standalone sat nav in an app downloaded to your smartphone which, in theory, does everything your dedicated device can. Is Google Maps a suitable substitute or should you hold on to your trusted sat nav a...

Google Maps for Android was just rebuilt from the ground up, and now it looks better, has more features, and offers a custom experience for individual users. As good as it is, though, it still has a bit of room for improvement
Map layers, turn-by-turn navigation, Street View, offline access, and a customized experience tailored to your interests make ; almost unbeatable.
You must have Google Earth for 3D city view. Offline caching feature is less intuitive than before. There's no way to sort search results and no more My Maps support.
With its long list of features, zippy performance, and syncing of data across other devices, Google Maps is a must-have application for anyone running Android.

On 31 May 2015 I reported how pleased I was with my experience of Google Maps which was on version 9.9.0 at the time. When I tested it there was just one snag concerning a mapping error near my home. I reported this and I am delighted to be able to say...

Facing the prospect of venturing into an unfamiliar part of the country I thought I'll have a look at Google Maps which Google so kindly and free-of-charge regularly update on my Galaxy S2. My phone is on Android version 4.1.2. This version does not...

I normally use a Tom Tom but for those times when I've left my sat nav at home because I didn't think I'd need it - and then did - Google Maps comes to the rescue. I have a phone holder (mounted on a 'bean bag' so it's easily moved about on the dash...

Google Maps app gets better and better. My wife has had two satnavs and they can't compete - NOT just on price, but on function, especially instant updating. If you have data on your phone, don't buy a satnav!

It works very well with few faults once it has started - but the weakness is in finding the satellites. On my Galaxy S3 which is a reasonably fast phone, it can take up to 3 minutes to get the Google navigation up and running. Not sure if this is a...

On the way to a sports event we got a bit lost. My friend got his sat nav out of the boot, rang a friend to ask the post code and took about 5 mins to programme in a route. It still didn't work and took us to a residential street not a sports venue. I...

I use it all the time. I've now given my old TomTom to my wife. Issues like audio volume and screen size will obviously depend on the Android device you use. What I like:Real time traffic/congestion alerts. Being able to see where today's congestion hot...
