Garmin Oregon 300 Handheld GPS Navigator

If you want a rugged handheld GPS navigator for the great outdoors, check out the Garmin Oregon 300.

You will need to be relatively serious about your hiking to spend at least £300 on the Oregon 300 plus Ordnance Survey maps. However, the Oregon goes well beyond what a basic handheld GPS can offer, or indeed any handheld GPS before. The Oregon has a...

Garmin Oregon 300

Handheld GPS with a touch screen

Full touch screen, attractive and minimal design, user-friendly interface, expandable memory, preloaded base map

Provided maps aren’t detailed enough, display isn’t readable in direct sunlight, slow acquisition times, 3-D view isn’t available with preloaded maps

Garmin has provided a competitive handheld GPS device with the Oregon 300. It provides a full touch-screen experience in combination with a rugged casing and vital navigation tools. We would have preferred more detailed maps, but Garmin has provided...

upgraded from 76CSx; I'm happy.

I am a daily user of GPSs. I need them for work (biologist) and for play (birdwatcher). This machine is a completely different beast from all the other Garmins that I have owned (12xl, eTrex Vista, 76CSx). The touch screen interface takes a lot of...

Not recommended

I'm a long time user of the Garmin GPS. I recently decided to upgrade from the etrex Vista CX to the Oregon 300. After having the Oregon for less than a week I've decided to take it back to REI for a refund. Here are my observations on the Oregon series:

Easy to use. The touch screen is nice. Boots fast
