Garmin nuvi 770 review

Can this flaghip satnav see off its TomTom rival? You bet it can. And here's why

Powerful ; Easy to use ; Great map instructions ; Points of interest ; Bright, clear display ; Genuinely useful features

Voices sound artificial, stilted ; Can lose satellite coverage in weak signal areas ; No dead reckoning

It's almost impossible not to love the Garmin nüvi 770. It makes a brilliant job of almost everything it does - and doesn't overwhelm you with frivolous features. Highly recommended

Garmin nuvi 770

Garmin's top-of-the range nuvi 770 is small and light and easy to use but it's not the prettiest and it's quite expensive too.

Slim / light / Simple to use

Naff graphics / poor handsfree quality

Garmin nuvi 770 review

This is fantastic

Be careful leaving even the suction cup on the windshield... since thiefs will smash the glass to look for the unit. My 83 year old father had his sunroof and side window smashed in, and the unit wasn't in the car!

Finds sats fast, very clear voice and screen is very easy to read even in bright light. the pre-loaded european maps are great, and updates are easy to get on their site. Voice changing is cool, and you can even download different vehical icons... I...

A bit long to boot-up, and asks you to verify that you will not adjust while driving. The FM traffic receiver never redirected me, and now after the free 3 months, it wants me to buy a subscription... I don't think so

What more could you want

We found that having the Euro maps will come in handy while doing a walking city tour from a cruise ship, and 5 hours of battery life is great. I would buy this unit again, and haven't even touched a number of the extras, like the currency converter.

Many options, including the european maps pre-loaded. Blue Tooth, traffic, currency converter, finds sats quickly, and even indoors! The simulated route is nice as well. Very easy to navigate through the Garmin site to download updates (Oct 08 is most...

You can only charge it using the supplied cord while in the car, USB will not display a map, but will charge from your PC. Replacement "radio / power" are very pricy

Excellent Product

Excellent interface, tracks satellites quickly, small and very nice windshield mount. I live in Germany and the traffic update is an excellent tool not sure how well it works in the states. Lots of bells and whistles and pretty good POI database....

Some functional problems with bluetooth on my Nokia Cell Phone and the computer generated voices butchers the German street pronounciations but like the reviewer said it's kind of comical. Speaker quality is average

Quite Impressive

The reason I purchased this unit is because of the preloaded US and European maps. btw Garmin NUVI units ending in *70 indicates European maps preloaded

Received from NewEgg just a few days before Christmas ; Yshuah and also my wifes b'day. We used it around San Diego and Los Angeles got on AirFrance got off the plane in Paris and this unit brought us to Mt St Michel flawlessly! We drove all over...

minor cons, The British voice which I prefer pronounces the french street names really funny but that really made the trip a bit more fun and amusing
