The Garmin nüvi 3490LMT brings a slick smartphone experience to navigation
Capacitive touch tech ; Great graphics ; Awesome feature set
Hefty price tag ; Route finding can be shonky

Hardware sat-nav needs to get with the programme if it's going to survive. That programme includes capacitive multitouch screens (you know, like you've had on your phone for the last five years), Google-style location searching and a battery that won't...
Pocketable design, Touchscreen works nicely, Will get you home
Voice control is a bit rubbish

At an MSRP of $399.99, the Garmin Nuvi 3490 LMT is easily the most expensive Garmin Nuvi that money can buy. Sitting firmly at the top of Garmin 2012 Prestige lineup of GPS navigators, it is also the most advanced Nuvi that money can buy and the...
The Garmin Nuvi 3490 LMT features an improved interface, snappy performance, and a svelte form factor. Garmin's truly hands-free voice command system is one of the best in the portable navigation business. Lifetime map updates and 3D Traffic Digital...
Bluetooth connection doesn't sync with the phone's address book. At $400, this is a very pricey PND.
The Garmin Nuvi 3490 LMT packs every trick in Garmin's book into an ultra-thin chassis, but the high MSRP will deter some.

The Garmin nüvi 3490LMT (despite the lower model number) updates the 3790LMT with a host of new customization options, Exit Services and ad-free HD traffic. And just like with the previous version, you get all this in a super-thin package sporting a...
Strong customization options ; Powered mount ; Exit services ; Lifetime map updates included ; Lifetime traffic (ad free) ; Good Bluetooth sound quality ; POIs can be displayed on the map ; Offers several choices of routes ; Voice commands ; Extensive...
HD traffic reception is weaker than that of standard traffic receivers ; Voice command responsiveness not as good as on the nuvi 2×95 series
Overall the nuvi 3490LMT is a nice model. Hopefully the HD traffic reception issues will be resolved over time. For myself and for now, I’d go with one of the 2x95LMT models over the 3490LMT. But folks who have to deal with traffic on a daily basis may...

My old (very old) Garmin finally plotted its last course and went to GPS heaven. I did my homework and found the 3490 was highly recommended, saw the lifetime updates included in the purchase price, and bought it. When it was delivered, I plugged it...
Couldn't be more simple to operate. The basic functions of entering a destination have been semi-automated to an amazing degree. The improvement in graphics was a knock-out; as was the improved keyboard

This is a unit that far surpasses my old Garmin unit I purchased three(3) years ago.My only complaint is that it does not show the name of street that you are currently traveling.
Consumer review (pcnation.com)
Bought it for my wife because we moved to new area. She is thankful to have it. It gives her confidence in venturing out.
The voice recognition is good.It is thin and easily storable
A little spendy. In all fairness though I haven't had occasion to use all of the features
