Garmin HUD review

Keep your eyes on the road with Garmin's head-up display

Compatible with almost any car ; Head-up display works well ; Easy to set up and use

Adds to in-car cable clutter ; Looks very 'after market' ; Requires smartphone app for functionality

A very effective way to add head-up display capability to your car, but adds to in-car clutter From there on, the appeal somewhat dwindles. As we mentioned, it's not a terribly tidy looking solution. It's always going to look a bit 'stuck on'. With...

Garmin HUD (Head-Up Display) review

The Garmin HUD can turn any driver into a fighter pilot. Sort of.

Delightfully geeky ; Directions that don’t block your view ; Sticks without needing to be stuck

Not an actual sat-nav ; Overall increase in clutter and fuss

Geeky and clever, but only a very dedicated driver would continue to use it once the fighter pilot novelty has worn off

Garmin HUD+ (Head-Up Display)

The HUD+ is an external display and windshield projector for your smartphone's Garmin GPS app. It works well, but is more of a toy for those with fighter-jet fantasies than a must-have.

Keeps your line of sight close to the road. Flexible mount sticks to textured dashboards. Extra USB charging port on power plug. Works with various Garmin GPS apps. Comes with free Garmin HUD GPS software download.

VFD display is limited to directions and speed. Reflector lens forces you to refocus. HUD app has in-app purchases. Limited usefulness when not on turn-by-turn navigation.

In summation, the Garmin HUD+ is a neat toy for those who want to add a head-up display to their automobile, but it's far from a must buy. A smartphone screen or traditional GPS unit will give you much more information, and the best selling smartphone...

'80s style meets modern tech in Garmin's HUD

Add a little bit of safety and a little bit of retro-cool flair to your next trip with Garmin's new Head-Up Display.

The ; reduces driver distraction by projecting GPS information onto the windshield and in the line of sight. Setup is largely automated and painless. Garmin includes two methods of viewing the display.

Only one reflective film is included in the box, and installation is easy to botch. The HUD requires an additional $50 app to function.

The Garmin HUD boosts safety and helps keep eyes on the road, but the cost of entry will likely dissuade most drivers.

Garmin HUD

The Garmin HUD has a world of potential for improving road safety even when you're not using a GPS, but it could still use some refinements.

A great way to simply show GPS directions or current speed. Works with just about any vehicle. Included reflective screen works well.

Screen film is hard to place, and you only get one. Only works with Garmin's own GPS applications. No in-built speaker or GPS functions. Can get very hot indeed.

The Garmin HUD has a world of potential for improving road safety even when you're not using a GPS, but it could still use some refinements.

Work as a HUD but no built-in GPS = Poor results

Work as a HUD but no built-in GPS = Poor resultsThis relies on your smart phones GPS signal which in my case is very patchy so took back for refund & bought a standard Garmin Garmin nüvi 42 instead and its perfect!

Consumer review (newegg.com)

works as advertized

I love it for safety reasons

Easy pairing, rugged built

If your windshield is 2 layers, can give you a double image if you are not using the included reflectors
