Garmin eTrex H

An expensive compass

Simple to use, IPX-7 casing, configurable routes and waypoints

No base map or detailed maps, monochrome LCD, serial PC connection, inadequate control of navigation

Although the eTrex H might suit those hikers who want nothing except the bare minimum, most will find it largely unusable. Inadequate functionality and no base map makes the unit extremely hard to use for anyone except the most experienced hikers, and...

Garmin eTrex H review

The Garmin eTrex H is Garmin's newest entry-level handheld GPS, a worthy successor to the basic yellow Garmin eTrex. A great first GPS for the budget-minded geocacher or hiker, this classic has been updated with a high-sensitivity chipset for superior...

Garmin eTrex H

This is a great little gizmo for the money. It does all the basic stuff, nothing fancy, but it does have a route planning feature to allow navigation round a series of waypoints. It also survived my clumsily dropping it onto concrete, so it's quite...

The buttons are very hard to press - fortunately I am not arthritic, but if I was, I think this could be a problem. I wish there was a facility to pan on the tracking map, so you can zoom into the entire track and move around, rather than just around...

Easy to use

Very easy to use (purchased it for my 3 kids to use for geocaching). Clear display and very accurate.

Good value and a great back up in an emergency

Ive had my ETREX for several years and its still going well. When I first got it I also got the Memory Map software (Lake District 1:25,000) and they work well together. Its particularly good when you get back from a walk and plug it into your laptop...

Small, lightweight, does the job

None really

Excellent bit of kit

I have used one of these eTrex for many years - they are simple and reliable - you just can not fault them. It has got me out of trouble a couple of times when the fog has come down too!

display requires magnifier

Returning for refund

locks on satellites in average house, good battery life

stripped version of a Legend, display unreadable w/o magnifier, glasses are not enough. Feature set of a Legend has been stripped

Great buy

Can navigate to Lat/Lon coordinates (for geocaching) but that is not shown anywhere in manuals. Hold ENTER on the Map Page and edit the Waypoint information, then "Go To" that waypoint. Works great, even with only 5 buttons.

Price, Size, shape, WATERPROOF, and backlit screen. High Sensitivity Antenna works inside or in deep cover. Battery life is great. Already several hours on (2) regular Alkaline batteries with more to go. Compass, and Altimeter built in

Limited Menus, black and white display. User manual basically worthless. Get on a good GPS forum or join a club to find out how to really use this unit to its potential. No Card slot or supplied cable for PC interface. No maps. Batteries not included
