Apisphere Geomate.jr

Families scratching their heads looking for cost-effective summer activities might want to consider the high-tech treasure hunt that is geocaching GPS devices targeted at geocachers can be expensive (take the $600 Garmin Oregon 400T, for example), but...

Very affordable. Preloaded database of geocaches for all 50 states. Easy operation

Small LCD makes icons difficult to see. No power-save mode. Geocaches newer than six months not included

If you don't want to spend several hundred bucks on a GPS that supports geocaching, the Geomate.jr is a fun, affordable workaround.

Apisphere Geomate.jr review

Apisphere Geomate.jr

The Geomate.jr is extremely easy for youth (and adults) to use thanks to its no-setup design and huge database of preloaded cache coordinates. Water-resistant and shockproof design should handle the occasional drop and splash with ease. The capability...

The lack of an internal compass means you have to be moving to get accurate direction information. Having to purchase a proprietary connection to update the cache database is slightly annoying. USB would be better, we think.

The Geomate.jr sits in a class of its own as a child-friendly and easy-to-use handheld, geocaching device.
