Nintendo Switch review

Nintendo's make-or-break new console is a modular marvel which is at home on the road as it is in your front room. And we love it

Brilliant as both a home console and a portable ; Joy-Cons are genius ; Solid line-up of games

Hidden costs of ownership add up ; Online service still up in the air

Nintendo’s 2-in-1 console is the real deal, with a huge list of fantastic games

Nintendo Switch review

No, not the excellent Will Smith song, but the Nintendo console you'll be desperate for

The Switch is a strong games machine, and it fills the niche that many people didn't even think existed. It's not perfect, and there are just a handful of games available for the console at the moment, but there's a lot of promise here. It's a machine...

Nintendo Switch Review

Attractive, innovative design ; Excellent game library ; Solid build quality ; Joy-Cons feel comfortable to use in multiple configurations

Short battery life ; Online service needs work ; Flimsy kickstand

The Nintendo Switch works as both a home game console and a handheld, offering access to a remarkably strong library of excellent games on your TV at home or in your hands on the go.

Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online is a necessary subscription if you want to play Switch games on the internet. It has classic NES and SNES games, as well as Tetris 99, but the way it implements its various features can be frustrating.

Enables online multiplayer. NES and SNES Classic Game Library. Includes Tetris 99.

Voice chat is unwieldy and requires a smartphone. Cloud saves don't work with all games.

Bottom Line: Nintendo Switch Online is a necessary subscription if you want to play Switch games on the internet. It has classic NES and SNES games, as well as Tetris 99, but the way it implements its various features can be frustrating.
