Could this be the handheld that dethrones the Steam Deck?
SteamOS or Windows 11 ; Great design ; New AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip
Doesn't get the most powerful Z2 chips ; Colorway is determined by OS
While it's too soon to say how well the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip in the new Lenovo Legion Go S performs, what time I was able to spend with the handheld showed me that another PC gaming handheld world is possible.

Second attempt gaming handheld gets plenty right... but there could be a better version of the Legion Go S waiting in the wings
Brilliantly comfortable shape and crisp controls ; Bright, colourful 120Hz display ; Sensible price makes it a true Steam Deck alternative
Modest chipset and high screen resolution not the best combo ; Touchpad is frustratingly small ; Windows still sucks on a small screen; roll on SteamOS
Sensibly priced, Steam Deck-like performance and with some of the best ergonomics of any PC gaming handheld, but the Legion Go S is let down by software woes. Hopefully the SteamOS version fares better.

Wait for the $499 SteamOS version
More ergonomic design ; Bright and colorful display ; Productivity battery life is greatly improved ; Now accepts M.2 2280 SSD
Lower peak performance ; Not a good value ; Finnicky trackpad
It's hard to recommend the Legion Go S over the already-established Legion Go.

The Lenovo Legion Go S will be the first third-party gaming handheld to run SteamOS, but it won't be out until May. So in the meantime, we're checking out the Windows 11 model to see if it's worth getting now or if you should wait.

The Lenovo Legion Go S establishes Lenovo as a premier handheld manufacturer, but I'd recommend waiting for a better hardware configuration.
Beautiful 8-inch 1080p display ; Very comfortable in the hands ; Rapid triggers are the best I've used ; Dual USB 4 ports
Only four CPU cores ; Windows is sorely lacking ; Battery life hasn't progressed
“Buy the Lenovo Legion Go S -- just wait for a better configuration.”

The Lenovo Legion Go S debuts AMD's latest mobile gaming processor and boosts battery life over the past generation, but its performance ceiling is limited for the price.

The Lenovo Legion Go S is an incredibly ergonomic handheld gaming PC that feels great in your hands, but Windows makes the whole experience feel awkward.

The Legion Go S fumbles the one thing it needed to get right
Fantastic audio quality, Comfortable ergonomics, Good heat management, Vibrant 8-inch display
Poor price to performance ratio, Subpar gaming battery life, Weak performance on high graphics settings, Fans can get loud
The Lenovo Legion Go S is a balance of compromises, offering an affordable entry-level price, stellar audio, good ergonomics, and a great display, but with subpar gaming performance compared to its competitors.

The Lenovo Legion Go S aims to be the jack-of-all-trades among gaming handhelds. Lenovo currently offers it with Windows and from May, it will also be available with Valve's gaming operating system. However, as a result of its somewhat slow APU and...
Ryzen Z2 Go can run frugally;good screen;high-quality case;comfortable controller;customizable shoulder buttons;good runtimes
Ryzen Z2 Go offers limited performance;comparatively high price;graphics performance could be better;maintenance is a little tricky
Lenovo is sending another representative into the mobile gaming battle via a Windows handheld. The Legion Go S is supposed to be more or less a cheaper alternative, but in our eyes, it still can't quite live up to the standards of this price point....

Does the Lenovo Legion Go S handheld bring enough to the table to upgrade or buy it over the original Legion Go? Let's find out.
This is basically a little handheld Xbox. You get Xbox Game Pass compatibility and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Not to mention, you can install Steam and get your Steam library as well. ; Very nice display, colorful and bright. Very enjoyable to use ; The...
Windows can be a PITA sometimes, I'm not going to poo-poo it like other reviewers. I think once you get it all set up, and you're in the game...it's fine ; Performance is fine, but not better than the outgoing Legion Go. So, maybe just buy the original...
Overall, the Lenovo Legion Go S is a very nice Windows gaming handheld. Here’s the bottom line, from my perspective. If your goal is to buy a Windows gaming handheld for Xbox gaming and Steam gaming, the Legion Go S competes with the rest of the pack...
