The 4mm that comes with unit is fine, but I wanted a little thicker potatoe slices for fried potatoes and scalloped potatoes. Love it. I keep the red protective clingy thing on blade when I store them. Blades are very sharp.

This was bought to replace a Kenwood Chef bought in 1970 and it is very similar in design with a better motor and lighter to lift so I am delighted with it as I was so upset that my 42 year old one went up in smoke.
