Toshiba - RD-XS32

If the DVD Recorder sounded the death knell of the VCR, then the DVD-R/HDD combination has all but buried it and paid for the headstone, offering the choice of recording directly to DVD or storing programmes ...

Toshiba's RD-XS32 is a well built, well featured player. It may be a complex unit but it performs well. On the downside, the hard drive may seem small compared to some of the opposition. As with all DVD-R/HDD DVD recorders it pays to shop around to get...

Toshiba RD-XS32

With an 80GB HDD as well as a DVD recorder, the Toshiba RD-XS32 is a very handy addition to any family that wants to record (and store) home movies and TV shows.

Allows play back of recordings at various speeds ; 80GB hard disk drive ; Picture-in-picture (PIP) viewing

No digital video connection such as DVI or HDMI ; Cannot record onto +R media

However, having a hard disk drive in combination with a DVD recorder makes Toshiba's RS-XS32 an alluring unit to have in your living room. The 80GB drive provides enough space to record over 100 hours at the lowest quality setting. Favourite shows can...

Another unique feature is the ability to set the recording bit rate. There are five record modes: SP (4.6 megabits per second, which allows two hours of recording on a 4.7-GB DVD and nearly 36 hours on the hard drive), LP (2.2 Mbps; four hours on a...

Toshiba RD-XS32 HDD/DVD Recorder Reviewed

If we were to lay the DVD evolutionary chart on top of the human evolutionary chart, we're currently two or three guys in from the right. DVD has come a long way, and it continues to penetrate mediums and platforms......

Excellent product

An excellent quality DVD recorder offering an amazing specification for a great price. I believe 80GB should be enough storage for most people.

Excellent picture quality, Superbly menu driven, Easy to operate, Good capacity HDD, PIP, Timeslip, Quiet operation, Compatible with Red Eye & Telewest Pace 4000, Watch the HDD or DVD whilst recording.

DVD loading times a little slow, Menu systems need time to appreciate, No backlit remote.

I had a chance to use one of these units for the first time today. It worked well. I would be happy to own one if I had the chance.
