Sony delivers its first BD-Live ready Blu-ray player, and it's surprisingly affordable.
Good picture quality ; Decent sound ; Efficient upscaling
Unimpressive build ; Needs to be updated for BD-Live ; DTS via bitstream only
By no means perfect, but Sony have definitely stepped their Blu-ray players up a gear with this deck

This diminutive player delivers superb picture and sound and represents incredible value for money
Detailed, clear Blu-ray picture ; solid DVD upscaling ; bold, solid sound
No onboard decoding of DTS HD Master Audio
This diminutive player delivers a superb picture and and sound and represents truly great value

Sony has had a problem for a while now. Because it's a large company, each division operates in quite a separate environment. For Blu-ray, this has been something of a disaster. On the one hand, you have Sony's computer-entertainment division, which...
Picture; sound; styling; performance; menu system; low price.
Could be cheaper still; no 7.1 audio outputs or DTS-HD MA decode.
Finally, a Blu-ray player from Sony for everyone to get excited about. This player is relatively quick to load discs, picture performance is superb, and its wonderful menu system and speed at dealing with interactive features make it well worth its...

The judges in our Test Centre evaluation graded the Sony BDP-S350 with a mixture of Good and Very Good scores, with the Very Goods seeing a slight edge.
You can find cheaper Blu-ray players on the market, but the Sony BDP-S350 is a strong bet. This model delivers a solid all-around package, and it does so at a price that won't break your wallet.

Sony's latest Blu-ray player is slimline and super-cheap. Is it your ticket to hi-def hills?
A superb entry-level Blu-ray spinner that looks the part and performs even better

The S350 will display discs containing full HD 1080p content and it can also upscale older standard definition video contained on DVDs to make them look much crisper and more colourful on an HDTV. The S350 is also compatible with 24p True Cinema...

A player that shows off all of Blu-ray's strengths – and all of its weaknesses
Fantastic pictures and sound
It looks cheap / No 7.1 audio / Unfinished functionality / No built-in memory
Also slightly aggravating is the lack of any 7.1 channel analogue audio line-outs for shipping decoded HD audio to suitable AV receivers; Sony is holding these connections back as selling points for models higher up its range

Great picture quality for Blu-ray and decent upscaling of DVD. Strong, punchy sound. User interface simple and attractive. This is an older model, but at least that means it's competitively priced
Striking blue fascia may not match many home cinema setups. Not the latest model. Slow disc loading

The Sony BDP-S350 is an entry-level Blu-ray player with plenty of impressive features.
Great performance for the asking price, attractive & compact design, comparatively fast load times, user-friendly interface
Poorly designed USB port, analog outputs limited to 2-channel
If you’d prefer not to spend a fortune on a Blu-ray player, but still want the quality-assurance that comes from the Sony brand, then the BDP-S350 is a top-quality choice.
