We choose the 626d based upon the glowing reviews that it had received, and good range of features. We particularly needed a good Dolby decoder and 2 channel audio output until I upgrade my receiver :-)

Although I'm a devout Sony follower, I did my research before choosing a DVD player, and decided on the Pioneer DV-626D. It appeared to have every feature one could ask for in a DVD player (except for multi-disc playback), and at a great price.
