Philips PET1000 review: Philips PET1000

Philips PET1000

Sleek design; excellent image quality for portable DVD player; large 10-inch screen; car adapter included; component-video out; two headphone inputs; plays MPEG-4, DivX files video files, and MP3 CD-Rs.

Expensive; hefty; does not display JPEG photos.

While the Philips PET1000 isn't exactly svelte or inexpensive, it is one of the sleekest and best performing portable DVD players.

Cool Toy - and Not Just for Boys

Like any other electronic, it has it's quirks, but overall, a great toy. My husband bought this for me as an early Christmas gift. I really was not expecting a portable DVD player to have this great of quality, but Philips has nailed it. The ...

Great picture. Great Sound. Light weight.

BEAUTIFUL LED SCREEN!

I bought 2 of these Philips as replacements for 2 of the 9" Kawasaki's I returned to Target. We both love the Philips! Bright blue LED lights on the unit are a plus. Easy to use controls on the unit itself, however the writing on the remote ...

PET 1000 one year later

As you have read, I was not impressed by the PET1000's nagging design defects (see w4csc review) upon my initial review of this product. (Note how they now call the model 1002 (version 2.x), now.) Mine failed, locking up in the middle of a movie. ...

What a little charmer!

Those familiar with my usual reviews of films, music, and the occasional book may be shocked that I've stooped to reviewing actual (shudder) technology. Some 50-odd years ago I was at the forefront of technology by learning how to type in Jr.High. ...

Good screen size and picture, easy operation, sensible controls

The battery is technologically Neanderthal ; other problems are minor

Great portable player with tons of flexibility

I was looking for a portable DVD player with a larger screen than the usual 7". There are not that many players out there with 10" screens. Of the ones I uncovered in my research, either the reviews were mediocre, the machine was discontinued, the...

Sharp picture, flexible formats and outputs, reasonable price

Menus are mostly driven by remote. If you don't have it you're stuck.
