Philips DVDR3575H review: Philips DVDR3575H

Philips DVDR3575H

Records TV programming to DVD or built-in 160GB hard drive; ATSC tuner for receiving digital broadcasts; HDMI output upscales to 1080p; 30-second commercial skip button; plays photos and MP3s from USB drives; one of the only DVD/hard-drive recorders...

No support for dual layer or DVD-RAM discs; ATSC tuner cannot deliver full native HDTV resolution; no onscreen program guide or IR blaster limits ability to be used as a DVR; no flexible recording length; mediocre video quality on video-based content;...

The Philips DVDR3575H is pretty much your only choice if you want a DVD recorder with a hard drive these days, but it's not as good as it could be.

Adequate performance for most video recordings off-air

I have had one of the Philips recorders for about seven years, and it has performed reliably. I also have a Panasonic DMR-EH75V HDD/DVD recorder, which has an 80GB drive, only half the capacity of the Philips drive. The Philips recorder can record to a...

Compact, can record in several modes

Does not provide a full 6-hour recording capability

Excellent choice

Well worth the money. I hope it never quits working.

I've had my Philips DVD/HDD recorder for just over a year now, and have burned hundreds of DVD-R's during that period. I enjoy old movies, and once you get used to it's peculiarities, this unit allows you to edit video recorded to the hard drive, and...

Not as easy to edit video recorded to the hard drive as my Panasonic unit, but I don't have any other negative comments to make. The manual could be a bit more descriptive.

Good recorder to replace VCR

Good replacement for the VCR (actually much better than a VCR could ever be) and avoids the recurring cost of both cable company and Tivo subscriptions.

Good DVR with ability to record digital over-the-air broadcasts with ATSC tuner. Easily replaces a VCR with full digital recording to a spacious 160GB hard drive (~200 hours at second from highest quality level). Has full 1080P upconversion capability...

Doesn't remember/save your previous location on either DVD's or Hard Drive when you turn the unit off (so you can't resume like on other DVD players/changers). Makes up for this on Hard Drive recordings by automatically putting chapter marks in a 5...

Philips DVDR3575H is great for casual TV-watcher

Needed to record different shows. The Philips DVDR3575H fit the bill perfectly! Without having to subscribe to a cable or satellite TV provider, we are able to record digital TV paying only the upfront cost of the recorder. We still have to program the...

Digitally record television with no monthly cost, record to DVD or Hard Drive

Some Caveats

This recorder suffered in the early stages, but recent firmware changes have helped. However, even the latest firmware lacks in features that should be standard on an ATSC/QAM/DVR/DVD recorder.I use this device for free Over-The-Air, ATSC ...

Hard Drive Recording, ATSC tuner.

Lots to list: No pgm guide, menus, URC support, cannot delete ATSC sub-channels, more.

Philips DVDR3575H - Don't buy one!

The manufacturer offers a solid 12 month guarantee which is a good thing as the hard drive is not reliable. It suffers from recording errors which make the sound disappear and the picture freeze. The spec is very good; it is easy to use and the...

Looks good, simple to use

Very unreliable hard drive, doesn't record properly

GOOD PRODUCT, BAD COMPANY POLICY

This is a good product. Functional and easy to use. I just happen to get a defective one. My complaint is not with the recorder but with Philips' return policy which in my opinion is dishonest. After set-up I noticed that timed recordings were ...

A good product ; functional and easy-to-use
