LG BH100 HD Combi player

Is this HD DVD/Blu-ray combi the answer to our high-def disc spinning prayers? In a word, no.

A trawl for further features uncovers a decidedly mixed bag. On the upside, for instance, the deck can output the 1080p/24Hz video format used by most films when they're encoded onto disc, potentially making for a cleaner appearance of those films when...

LG BH100 review

LG's format-converging player gives us the Super Multi Blues

Good picture quality ; Concept deserves credit

Pointlessly expensive ; Missing some important features ; Only limited HD DVD support

With some odd omissions and a high price tag, this is a high-end deck that badly needs a price drop

LG BH100 Super Multi Blue Blu-ray HD DVD player

With the format war still raging strong, what better way than to try and beat the battle than to opt for a hybrid player that offers both formats in the same box? As an offering to circumnavigate the format war LG has created a device that means you...

Plays Blu-ray, plays HD DVD, plays DVD

Price, didn't seem to offer all the features individual players do, doesn't play CDs

As an offering to circumnavigate the format war LG has created a device that means you can get the best of both formats without the worry that you've backed another LaserDisc.

LG BH100 review

The world's first dual-format high-definition disc player, the LG spins both Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs. The end of the format war starts here…

LG BH100 Blu-ray/HD DVD player

The first player to combine both HD formats is only half a success...

Waves two fingers at the whole HD disc format war; looks great; support for 1080p/24 output; decent picture quality with both formats

Doesn't play HD DVD interactive features; including most disc's start-up menus; no CD playback; slow disc loading; slight motion softness; expensive

The HDMI does have one nifty trick up its sleeve, though: it can ship out video from HD discs in a 'pure' 1080p/24Hz format. This matters because 1080p/24Hz is the format most films use when they're put on an HD disc, so if a deck can output 1080p/24Hz...

LG BH100

On paper, LG's BH100 is the answer to every high definition lover's prayers. Finally a manufacturer has stepped clear of all the political machinations of the warring HD DVD and Blu-ray factions and put together a player capable of handling both formats

Looks great, 1080p output

Not fully HD DVD-compatible

It's a good stab at peacemaking, but it's not going to end the HD disc format war

LG Super Blu Player (BH100)

If you can get past its price, the LG BH100 takes the guesswork out of which HD disc format is the right one for you.

Plays HD DVD and Blu-ray movies. Supports 1080p24 output via HDMI. Useful and well-crafted on-screen display.

Does not support interactive/online/graphical HD DVD features. Remote is missing a basic HD DVD navigation-control feature. Remote's backlight is essentially useless. No 1080p upconversion. No support for 1080p60 output.

the bh100 is touted as a "fullhd 1080p" device. this is technically true, but there are some interesting limitations here. the 1080p video output from the bh100 is limited to 24-hz and 30-hz signaling; it doesn't support the more common 60-hz format....

LG BH100 review: LG BH100

Plays back both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs; excellent image quality on both high-def disc formats; attractive design with touch-sensitive buttons; excellent remote; quick response during scans and chapter skips.

Expensive; no CD playback; subpar support for new surround soundtracks; does not support HDi interactive features of HD DVDs; only a few TVs can't accept its type of 1080p output; upscaling of DVDs is a step below competitors; load times are somewhat...

The LG BH100 can play back both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs with excellent image quality, but a variety of quirks and missing features limits its appeal.

LG BH100 Combo Player

This high-quality player handles both HD DVD and Blu-ray, but the high price tag is a real deterrent.

LG Super Multi Blue Player BH100

The LG Super Multi Blue Player (BH100) is a 'format-agnostic' player which will service both HD DVD and Blu-ray, but the question is: will people want to play both?
