Hands-on at CES 2014: Parrot's smartphone controlled toy that can leap and crawl on the ground
We’ve been waiting to see if Parrot was capable of producing a smartphone controlled toy that works on the ground and the Sumo has all the ingredients to be a lot of fun. If Parrot can get the pricing right, there will be plenty of people both young...

If quadcopters aren't you're thing, the two-wheeled Jumping Sumo is a fun smartphone accessory with a camera that gives you a new perspective on your surroundings.
The Parrot MiniDrone Jumping Sumo is a fun, two-wheeled rover with a camera that streams a first-person view for piloting through your environment with a smartphone or tablet. The camera can also capture low-res photos and video.
Video capture is limited to VGA resolution and requires a Micro-USB thumb drive for storage. Battery life is "up to" 20 minutes, and the battery is charged in the Sumo and takes about 90 minutes to top off. Wi-Fi connection can be temperamental.
The Parrot MiniDrone Jumping Sumo gives you a ground-level look at your environment as it spins and jumps at your command.

The word "drone" at this point probably conjures up images of unmanned aerial vehicles conducting military airstrikes or multirotor aircraft for aerial photography or delivering packages.

With all the interest surrounding aerial drones of late, it might seem like a step backwards for Parrot to come out with a quirky two-wheeled vehicle that rolls around on the floor. But after spending some time with its new, spring-loaded minidrone, we...
The Jumping Sumo has a top speed of 7 km/h (4.5 mph), with a slider on the left of screen to control acceleration and braking. Steering, however, does get a little bit trickier. There are buttons for 90 and 180 degree turns when at a standstill, but to...

Parrot is trying to expand the reach of its consumer drone products with two new gadgets now available to buy, the Jumping Sumo and the Rolling Spider
These toys are great fun for those looking for a novel gadget to get beginners and those on a tight budget interested in drones, but they’re definitely not going to win over the serious enthusiast, and they offer up too many compromises to please...
