Philips's stylish entry-level DVD

Dutch manufacturer Philips has always been known for distinctive styling, but its ultrasleek DVDR615 takes DVD-recorder design to a new level. External design, that is. Our reviewer found the unit's menus and remote control about as comprehensible as...

Extremely sleek look; above-average recording quality in four-hour mode; component-video and FireWire inputs.

Confusing menus; terrible remote; spotty DVD-R/RW playback compatibility.

This entry-level DVD recorder offers a FireWire input, but its confusing menus and useless remote will confound beginners.

Excellent

An easy to use very reliable recorder. Thanks to whoever , there was a setting supplied to reset the region code. Thank you.I receive RW+ discs from Germany on a regular basis and have had to shorten long shows by up to 30% and with the "Adapt" feature...

Everything, directions easy to follow etc. I have had this unit for 6 years and had no problems. Best feature is the "Adapt menu" setting enabling you to edit discs burned on other recorders.( not found on any other recorder.)

I don't like the fact that you cannot buy it anymore, what will I replace it with, when it finally dies?

Excellent DVD Recorder for the price

Nice looking box. Works well once firmware upgraded. Lots of I/O ports. Creates great DVDs.

Bad remote, problems with on screen display, editing video chapters can be tricky

Excellent DVD Recorder for the price

Just picked this unit up at Circuit City for $100 (with rebates) after a horrifying experience with a Coby DVR-R1100 unit. I bought it because it was a good name brand with all the inputs I wanted, for a good price. In three days, I've filled up four ...

Good

I had been researching DVD recorders for a few months and mainly wanted a good brand that would work (so many reviewed are faulty) also excellent picture quality when played on other players and to record in widescreen and work on Foxtel. I had already...

* Excellent picture quality recording TV and Foxtel, and when playing back on other DVD Players. * Records 2.5 hours on DVD +RW in M2x mode. * Plays on my other DVD players. * You can edit out ads by adding chapter markers and then hiding the chapters...

* Made in Hungary (not sure yet if that is bad or not but it made it extremely difficult to set up due to instruction manual translation. I put the cables in as per diagram for Foxtel and no picture. In the end I put the manual down and tried all the...
