D-Link DSM-120
Streams audio from networked PCs; streams and copies music from USB-connected drives and certain MP3 players; expandable via the addition of an optional internal hard drive; plays DRM-protected WMAs; plays Live365 Internet radio service; includes...
Not available with preinstalled hard drive; not compatible with Rhapsody on-demand music streaming service; no compatibility with iPod; can't stream music to other UPnP client devices; poor compatibility with USB devices.
Capable of playing tracks from networked PCs, the Internet, USB-connected drives, certain MP3 players, and an optional internal hard drive, the D-Link DSM-120 is the most versatile digital audio receiver in its price range.

Riding on the MP3 wave is D-Link with their latest Wireless Music Player. What's great about the DSM-120 is that it can also perform as a standalone media player simply by slotting in a 2.5-inch hard disk.

Works as advertised! No problem upgrading the firmware (like every other wireless device I've upgraded, I used the WIRED interface).
It's a little bigger then the picture might suggest.

Looks nice. Setup wasn't too bad
Requires its own player. Incompatibilities. I couldn't make playlist work correctly. The playlist format is not the format used by any of the newer software players

Any windows media player 11 pc can share media with this device. No software installation needed ; the firmware installed itself as soon as i plugged into the network. there were no problems with the install
only WEP encryption. i had to switch from using WPA-2 ; the remote control seems a bit sluggish

Nice to be able to play my entire music collection on my hifi stereo.
The display is so-so.

Haven't been able to boot it up to try it out yet.
I plugged it in and it said firmware update is available and then locked up just like the last review described.

Nice display, can add hard disk for storing songs locally
DO NOT BUY until DLink Fixes Major Bug ; I selected this unit over the Roku, because I liked the ability to add a hard disk ; The features in this unit are excellent, BUT it will automatically try to upgrade its firmware over the network, and this WILL...

Has good connectivity options and option to put in hard drive
After firmware upgrade, UPNP doesn't work. Support is horrible
Consumer review (newegg.com)
I wish it would automatically go on to play the next album, after finishing one. I also wish it would remember where it left off, so it could restart where it stopped playing last. Because of these 2 deficiencies, I always select "all music" and...
It plays music on your home stereo from mp3 files on your computers' hard drive. Good quality sound. I use the optical connection to my receiver. The automatic firmware upgrade worked fine for me--it was automatic
It will occasionally corrupt the mp3 files on your computer's hard drive and you will need to run scandisk on your hard drive to fix it. Correctly formatting a 2.5" hard drive to go inside the unit is difficult; you need to use Win95 or Win ME. The...
