If you haven't already guessed I like the FX7. It has a combination of high-technology features such as the large 2.5-inch screen and optical image stabilisation that make it a cut above and that's before we get to the stylish all-metal and oh so shiny...
Nice, clean high-resolution images combine with fair noise suppression and responsiveness. Exposure is good as is white balance and the image stabilization is excellent to say nothing of the large 2.5-inch screen and great styling.
Low battery life marred an otherwise accomplished bit of kit, highlights in contrasty shots become blown quickly and there’s few focus issues in low light. My one other gripe is the menu system that requires the double selection of any settings.
Given the manufacturers pedigree; until two years ago it did not really have one for digicams, the FX7 is testament to the companies back room boffins, which have consistently produced stingingly good cameras since Panasonic got serious about digital...

When I first read about the Panasonic Lumix FX7 (and FX2) I immediately thought WOW! These digital cameras are extremely compact, with a 3x Optical zoom, and a large TFT screen, but rather than being just like all the other compact 3x Optical zoom...

Panasonic's pocket-sized Lumix DMC-FX7 looks to be just another 5-megapixel digital camera, but it has a big trick up its sleeve: it comes with a built-in optical image stabilizer, which helps you eliminate the blurry photos by letting you use slower...

With a Leica lens that lives up to its name and optical image stabilization that dampens the effect of the shakiest hands, this 5-megapixel ultracompact is an alluring camera for the snapshot photographer whose expectations can be summed up by the...
Optical image stabilization; solid image quality; versatile burst mode; large LCD; easy operation with no-brainer Simple mode.
No manual settings; low-res movie mode; poor LCD visibility in low light.
High-quality optics and two image stabilization modes deliver good image quality in an ultracompact package.

On paper, the ultracompact Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7 seems like a winner.
Beautifully crafted. Image stabilization feature is unique in such a small camera. Large 2.5-inch LCD.
Images were noisy and unremarkable. Too much shutter lag if you don't prefocus.

As with the recently reviewed Canon PowerShot SD300 (IXUS 40i) the DMC-FX7 is the perfect pocket camera as long as you don't expect miracles and are prepared to accept a certain amount of compromise on features and image quality.
