Olympus OM-D E-M10

Olympus offers a top-quality CSC at an entry-level price

Has features from premium OM-D siblings ; Excellent low-light performance ; Great DSLR styling ; Superb auto white balance (AWB)

Dynamic range a tad poor ; Only 3-axis stabilisation ; Tendency to oversharpen JPEGS

Finally, the E-M10 carries the 17.3 x 13mm, 16-million-pixel four thirds live CMOS sensor found in the OM-D E-M5, coupled with the TruPic VII Image processor taken from Olympus’s flagship OM-D E-M1.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 review

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 is the brand's best priced OM-D yet

Decent price ; Wi-Fi and tilting toucscreen ; Stunning images

Viewfinder could be comfier ; Smaller sensor than rivals

Olympus OM-D E-M10 review

A more affordable OM-D with most of the E-M5's features

High quality EVF ; Excellent image quality ; Compact metal body

Tilting rather than vari-angle screen ; Not weather-sealed ; No battery-grip

An excellent camera that affords lots of control over images, feels good in the hand and has a control layout that's easy to get to grips with. It also has a healthy number of customization options and produces high quality images.

The retro-styled Olympus OM-D E-M5 Compact System Camera winds the clock back

Solid build and retro style ; Angle-adjustable OLED ; Integral viewfinder

Backplate buttons are tiny

Olympus E-M10 a good interchangeable-lens mirrorless alternative to first dSLR

Though it doesn't deliver the best photo quality, the sum of the E-M10's design, performance and features add up to a nice upgrade from a point-and-shoot.

The Olympus OM-D E-M10's design and interface works well for both beginning and advanced photographers, it has a well-rounded feature set, and it's fast enough for general-purpose kids-and-pets photography.

It produces good-but-not-great photos and videos.

Though it doesn't deliver the best photo quality, the sum of the Olympus OM-D E-M10's design, performance and features add up to a nice upgrade from a point-and-shoot.

Olympus OM-D E-M10

The nicely designed and extremely compact and metal-bodied OM-D E-M10 convinces with great image quality and operation thanks to the TruePic VII Processor, inherited from the OM-D flagship E-M1, a 16 MP Live MOS sensor, built-in WiFi with QR code...

Olympus OM-D E-M10 review

  (Rating Hidden)

A cheaper successor to Olympus' much-loved E-M5 and E-M1, the OM-D E-M10 has some serious compact system camera (CSC) pedigree to live up to. Its 16-megapixel (Mp) sensor, 81 autofocus points and array of professional controls mean it could be a worthy...

Olympus OM-D E-M10

If you can't afford the awesome E-M1, the E-M10 might just be your next favourite mirrorless from Olympus.

Small and light, Wi-Fi, dials make adjustment easy, EVF is good, touchscreen.

Front dial often adjusted accidentally, touchscreen not always responsive, more expensive than we hoped for.

As with its bigger brothers, image quality on the E-M10 can simply not be faulted, although we must confess that we prefer the12-50mm F3.5-6.3 zoom as found on the E-M5 to the 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 that is sold with the E-M10 in SA. It retails for R13 300,...
