Nikon Coolpix W300

Nikon's latest rugged compact is solid if unspectacular. Nikon Coolpix W300.

Tough, waterproof construction ; Simple operation ; Built-in GPS ; Strong image quality in good light

Reflective screen ; No option to shoot in RAW ; Not as strong as rivals in low light

Toughly built and a decent performer, but there’s no compelling reason to buy this over the superior Olympus TG-5 – except if you’re a diver, perhaps.

Nikon Coolpix W300 Review

We review the Nikon Coolpix W300 - the underwater camera from Nikon, with 4K video recording and a 5x optical zoom lens.

If you’re looking for a point and shoot waterproof camera, with 4K video, then the Nikon Coolpix W300 fits the bill. The W300 is also waterproof down to 30 metres, more than any other compact camera, without the need of an external waterproof case.

Nikon Coolpix W300

Nikon has announced the Coolpix W300 for summer 2017. A compact and rugged lifeproof-style point-and-shoot camera, Nikon describes the W300 as more of a refresh from last year's Coolpix AW130.

Nikon Coolpix W300 Review

Though it’s not the cheapest example at a manufacturer’s suggested £389.99, the all weather, JPEG-only Nikon Coolpix W300 is in our opinion one of the best in its class, if we’re talking pocket sized, ruggedized action-come-travel cameras.

Nikon Coolpix W300 review

Seeking a tough and waterproof compact digital camera for holidays or the great outdoors? The Nikon W300 might just prove its mettle in the wet and the dry

Offers the ability to grab images we might not dare otherwise attempt ; Waterproofed to a decent 30 metres depth ; Broad zoom range provided by internally stacked and protected 5x lens

Small controls can prove fiddly, particularly with wet fingers ; Auto exposure proves inconsistent

Perfect for placing in the hands of smaller members of the family who want to take pictures, this toughened water and drop-proofed Nikon Coolpix W300 point-and-shoot should appeal to butter-fingered big kids too, or simply those seeking to achieve more...

Nikon Coolpix W300 Review: Best Deep-Diving Waterproof Camera

Overall, the rugged and waterproof Nikon Coolpix W300 will provide most shooters with the tools they need to take good to very good quality images or video in most situations. Some advanced users, though, will miss certain higher-end features, such as...

Versatile and easy to use ; Intriguing variety of video modes, including 4K-resolution video and time lapse ; Clearly marked and responsive controls ; Waterproof to 100 feet

Struggles in low-light situations ; Lacks full-manual mode ; Wireless connectivity isn't intuitive

Nikon's waterproof camera can dive as deep as 100 feet, twice as far as the competition.
