Nikon Coolpix P330

Can the Nikon P330 match the LF1 and rivals in the premium compact market?

Impressive noise control at higher ISO settings, Good value comapred to rivals, Good LCD screen, Small aperture at tele end of the focal range

Slow shot-to-shot speed in Raw capture, No built-in Wi-Fi

Nikon Coolpix P330

Nikon's putting a lot into the Coolpix range of late. The P330 model, which updates the previous P310, isn't a gentle nudge forward in the company's "performance" range, it's a far bigger step up thanks to the P330's inclusion of a larger 1/1.7-inch...

Close-up macro mode, raw capture available, small body size, fair price point, decent build quality, f/1.8 aperture at wide-angle setting, versatile 24-120mm (f/1.8-5.6) equivalent lens, improvements compared to predecessor

Autofocus not always accurate, menu lag, file write time and camera lock-out while buffer clears, no touchscreen, no quick access menu, no manual focus ring

The Nikon Coolpix P330 is a definite step forward compared to its predecessor, and it throws the P-series into the high-end compact camera mix. But it's also a game of two halves.

Nikon COOLPIX P330 Review

, the Nikon Coolpix P330 is only really let down by one thing, namely its ability to quickly process Raw images. It's a particular shame here as much of the P330's appeal is the provision of Raw capture, although if you only plan on capturing JPEGs...

Nikon Coolpix P330 Review

with a new 5x optical zoom lens, new larger backlit 12 megapixel CMOS sensor which is less pixels, and a larger sensor than the predecessor which should give improved image quality.

Compact metal body, 2 year warranty, f/1.8 5x optical zoom lens, 24mm wide-angle equivalent, RAW shooting added, VR built in, Good noise performance, Good macro performance

Aperture quickly darkens as you zoom, Slow RAW write times, Slow telephoto focus, Short battery life

Nikon Coolpix P330

The Nikon Coolpix P330 pocket camera is capable of producing some truly outstanding images, but may be too slow for some shooters.

Very small for a 1/1.7-inch sensor camera. Sharp lens. Impressive images through ISO 1600. Raw shooting support. Wide aperture when zoomed out. Built-in GPS.

Sluggish performance. Extreme distortion at widest angle in Raw mode. In-camera battery charging. Finicky power button.

There's a built-in GPS, which isn't a common feature in digital cameras. It automatically adds your location to photos, so you can view them on a map in software like Lightroom, iPhoto, and Picasa. The GPS requires about 90 seconds to lock onto a...
