Bright and fast aperture lens ; Rock solid build quality ; Superb image quality

Canon's workhouse G series premium compact gets refreshed

Full manual control ; Raw format shooting ; Built-in Wi-Fi

No touchscreen ; Limited flexibility with digital filters ; Can't use Wi-Fi for remote shooting

If you're looking for a good workhouse camera to carry around with you, then the Canon G16 a good bet. Take a look at the Canon S120 though if you need something a touch more pocket friendly – it features the same sensor.

Canon PowerShot G16 review

There's much to be said for sticking with something that works, but do it for too long and the item in question starts to look old. Take the Canon PowerShot G-series, here in its latest G16 form, as an example. The product line's visual evolution has...

Image quality is great, raw shooting option, physical control layout perfect, bright maximum aperture - even at full zoom, 1080p movies at 60fps

Body could do with a refresh, fixed screen position, very small viewfinder, Wi-Fi features don’t extend to wireless shooting

The G16 may be starting to look a little dated, particularly when you compare it to something like Sony’s sleek RX100, but that doesn't stop the Canon remaining a top-notch snapper all round. When something's right, it's just right - and the G16...

Canon PowerShot G16 hands-on: has the high-end compact embraced change enough? - Pocket-lint

Compact cameras are going through change of late. Size is on the down, sensor sizes on the up and cameras such as Canon's G-series have had to adapt in

Canon PowerShot G16 review

Pushing the definition of a compact camera to the limit, the brutish Canon G16 barges the competition aside with formidable photo firepower

Very fast ; Excellent indoors ; Impressive video ; Direct manual controls ; RAW shooting

Large for a compact ; Small viewfinder

For those days when a DSLR is too much to handle, the G16 makes a fine deputy

Canon PowerShot G16 speeds past G15

There aren't a lot of updates for the new entrant in the G series, but the camera does gain in overall performance.

The ; produces very good photos in bright light, and the fast lens, optical viewfinder, and relatively streamlined design make it nice to use. Plus, it finally delivers solid continuous shooting.

A mediocre Wi-Fi implementation, no articulated LCD, and lack of manual controls while shooting video are among the ways in which the G16 lags behind the competition. And other cameras deliver better photos in low light.

While the Canon PowerShot G16 is better than the G15 and remains a nice enthusiast compact, its low-light photo quality disappoints for the money.

Canon PowerShot G16

This is a PowerShot offering which along with the Ixus brand are Canons two non DSLR offerings. This is one of the larger – small – units as such it is almost as large as some smaller DSLR units and it comes with a neck strap not a wrist strap.

The Canon PowerShot G16 compact digital camera measures 9.5x7.5x4cm, the last figure can double when fully zoomed. The unit weights 354grams. As with most recent offerings it has Wi-Fi to transfer images and of course to let you know where you took...
