Canon G1X Mark III

A mighty little camera that rewrites the rulebook for zoom compacts. Canon G1X Mark III.

Class-leading image quality ; Excellent control layout and handling ; Robust weather-resistant construction

Lens is a little limited in terms of creative potential ; Relatively poor battery life ; No 4K video recording

Want a small camera with a short zoom lens, electronic viewfinder and the highest possible image quality? Then the G1X Mark III is without doubt one of the very best on the market right now.

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III review

A unique compact, thanks to an APS-C sensor and zoom lens

APS-C sensor in a small body ; Built-in EVF ; Refined touchscreen interface ; Compact size

Limited zoom range ; Battery life restrictive ; Only 1080p video capture

The PowerShot G1 X Mark III is the first APS-C format compact camera to feature a zoom lens, making it worthy of interest. It's pricey, but Canon may just have hit the sweet spot for enthusiast photographers looking for a compact partner for their DSLR...

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III review: Can this compact truly replace a DSLR?

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III has successfully replaced our go-to DSLR for the past week, so it's more than up to the task. But it hasn't done so

It's so small considering the sensor size ; Great image quality from APS-C size sensor ; Dual Pixel AF is a capable autofocus system ; Built-in EVF and vari-angle toucshcreen controls ; Solid dust/drip-proof construction

Maximum aperture quickly drops to f/5.6 which is limiting ; Zoom could be snappier through the range ; Autofocus won't rival a DSLR ; It's obviosuly expensive

In the world of compact cameras it's rare to find one with a sensor as large as an APS-C one - there's the never-been-followed-up Nikon Coolpix A from 2013, or the more recent Ricoh GR - and, until this third-gen Canon reared its head, there's never...

Canon G1X Mark III review

Honey, Canon just shrunk the DSLR...

Small body ; Large APS-C sized sensor ; Vari-angle screen

Limited zoom ; Limited aperture range ; Poor battery life

An impressive feat of miniaturisation and a great DSLR backup, as long as you can accept a few compromises

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is the smallest zooming APS-C camera we've seen, but it feels like a step back from the Mark II.

Big, APS-C image sensor. Compact body. Dual Pixel AF. EVF. Vari-angle touch LCD. Dust and moisture resistant.

Expensive. Short, narrow aperture zoom lens. Disappointing battery life. Eye sensor active with LCD away from body. Video limited to 1080p.

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is a camera that leaves me with very mixed feelings. It puts an APS-C sensor and zoom lens into a form factor we haven't seen before—one that's pocketable—and both the lens and sensor are quite good. Canon's Dual Pixel...

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III review

Canon's newest PowerShot flagship comes with a large APS-C sized sensor, built-in zoom lens, and yet, is small enough to fit in your pocket. So how does it stack up? Find out in our full review.

Canon's PowerShot G1 X Mark III exists in somewhat of a vacuum. It has a large APS-C sized sensor, is small enough to be considered pocketable, and has a permanently attached zoom lens with a versatile focal range. In other words, there have been...

Canon puts a zoom lens on its G1 X Mark III APS-C compact camera

Leica did it first, but it's telling that no one else has tried in the four-year interim.
